tire removal for gaurds

Postby dirtybird_1 » Thu Jun 10, 2004 2:53 am

yes i had to take off my rear tires to put them on. you also have to drill into your body panel lip in the rear wheel-well to put them on. the whole process took about 45min-hour by myself. just follow the instructions toyota sends and they will turn out perfect.

I don''t know why, but I didn't remove the tires of any of the 2 cars I have installed the mudguards, maybe because both of them are convertibles, don;t know, but maybe.

When all you guys drilled holes into the metal what did you do to minimize any potential rusting in those holes in the future. I'm worried about drilling those holes and then losing rust-proof warranty if rusting starts.

I haven't used anything for it, but been an original part, I think that if a huge risk of rust is expected, they shoul dhave mentioned something in the instructions or when ordering, and there is no words about it.

I'm surprised there isn't or you don't use any pre-existing holes. I'd find out if it would be covered, since your using their OEM parts.

The front mudguards use all pre-existing holes, also the rear end use 1 pre-existing hole (Bottom one) but the other 2 holes must be done with a drill.

I called a local dealer and they told me that if they did the mudflaps install, it would be totally covered for any potential rust issues from the drilled holes. Of course, they wanted $100 to do the install of the four mudflaps. So basically unless you prepare those holes correctly to prevent rust after drilling, you could be void of your rust warranty if they rust. It was not in the instructions but this is what one Toyota dealership told me.

That's pretty gay. So there saying pay $100 for install or your not covered for any rust issues. For something so easy to install, they should give you something to prepare the holes. But damn, :o $100 that's a rip.

I'm glad I got mine before the $30 price increase. But I still think they're worthwhile at the new prices. They're indispensable, without them it gets too dirty all the time aft of the tires.

In that case, should we treat the holes we drilled with something to prevent it from rusting? (someone just told me WD40... is that ok?)
