Kumho Ecsta SPT 235/45/18

Great ride - sticks like glue to the road - MUCH quieter than the Michelin Pilot Sports I had previously - and you CAN'T beat the price!! (Even if you get them somewhere besides TireRack).

;)

Those do look good... I'm also considering...

Goodyear Eagle RS-A

Anyone know which of these two will wear more slowly?

Goodyears most likely - I think they're a harder compound. Also more $$, but offset by lasting longer.

Goodyear are also more likely to be better in rain/ice too.

Hmm... the Kumho Ecsta SPT are looking better. Glad to have a fist hand review.

It is a hard decision. It doesn't really turn winter here until late January. It would be typical that the year I get brand new summer tires for daily driving, it ices over.

Hmm... is a hard decision.

I work for discount tire and I put the Kumho Ecsta STP's on ,like PXL, in a 235/45-18, simply because I can go though 2 set of STP's for the same price before one set of Goodyear Eagle RS-A's. Of the two tires the STP's have a longer tread wear rating than the RS-A's and are an extra load tire. I like the look of the shoulder of the STP because it is a little boxier than the RS-A which is pretty rounded of. The downside of the STP is I wouldn't trust it much in the rain, and since it is a directional tire I do get a little pulling as I drive at high speeds. If I were you since the tires are very similar in price, I would go with the RS-A. It's just a better performing tire but if budget is a concern the Kumho is a little bit cheaper. I obviously pay a lot less but I work for Discount Tire that's why I can go through a set a year of Goodyear. The higher end tires will just ware quicker-they might ride better but they will ware quicker.

By the way I just put the 18's off of the Lexus RX330 painted in hyper silver with 235-45-18 STP's, pic soon to come if weather clears up here.

alright, so I know i'm probably a month and a half too late on this topic, but i had to share my brand of tire. About a year and a half ago, I was in the market for new tires. And seeing as how I had a friend working at Firestone, I decided to try them out. (Really hesitant about them after the whole SUV flipping thing a few years ago) I was thinking about getting some Potenzas, but when I got there, I was told about their new Fuzion ZRi's. They're relatively cheap performance tires. I decided to get a 235/40R17. They're wider than necessary and thus, my handling is awesome. I was taking corners at like 40 mph. I attribute a lot of that to my springs as well, but the point is that in their price range, they are one of the best tires I have ever seen.

More info at

hope it helped,
