In real HID, usually the kelvin rating is too high to be properly seen in bad weather, so the addition of fog lights bring out everything, and that's even the reason manufacturers still insist on OEM fogs being Halogen, and yellow/amber colors amplifies the light more.

Though I don't personally care for the yellow fog lights, you are correct about the practical application of yellow/amber fogs in actual FOG!

Since we rarely have fog issues here in SoCal, I think I'd never use my fogs for that purpose - but it does help light the road directly in front and to the sides...
