^ wouldn't one be able to change fuses to a higher amp be alright??

dont know which model, but some lexus cars have 3k k in their fogs.

Never seen a 3k HID, Hallogens basically put out 3k. You might be thinking of IS300 w/yellow fogs, but those are hallogens.

I think all ballasts are "weather resistant" since they are basically outside all the time, however its impossible to totally seal a ballast and sheild it from the elements without the risk of it overheating.

Just replacing fuses with higher amps is an even bigger risk than just blowing one. Fuses are there to protect the electrical system from higher voltages than it can handle.

It would be like choosing not to wear your seatbelt because its too tight.

That's why you only use the wiring harness that comes with the HID kit for the power and plugs into the OEM harness only to trigger the HID relay. This way, all of the current draw of the HIDs is through the heavier wiring provided. ;)

I had HID Fog/Driving lights on my Tundra - the ballasts were self-contained and weather-proof.

Here's a pic of them on during the day (looks like night because it was shutting down the camera's aperture - or it would just be a solid white image) ;)

...and no, they were NOT legal for on-road use! :D :evilbat:

my thought exactly, some people re-aim the beam much lower but its still bad

of course, the lack of concern for other people on the road doesn't help either

Didn't Boa do this. I remember him saying that it was a mistake to have put HIDs in the foglights. They were too bright.

I think the idea here guys, is NOT to put HIDs in the existing Fog housings, but to put in projectors in their place. :-?

boaclub923: nice link, good to have vid reference!

but i still can't figure out how to get a sharp cut off from stock headlight with HID

they seems to looks cool, but actually projected the light away from the front (most lights are projected to the side or something) where we needed it most

probably because of the length (?!) of the regular and HID bulbs are different, hence the focus is off with the stock projector ... ??

um... sorry, english is not my primary langauge..
so, i don't really udnerstand this sentence
"i still can't figure out how to get a sharp cut off from stock headlight with HID "

anyway..
as far as i know,
HID light bulb is longer than the halogen bulb;
however, the point where the light lit on the HID light bulb is same as halogen bulb.
so, i don't think the length of HID bulb is the reason why light spread out more than stock light bulb

btw, i'm thinking to add the images of HID in night on empty street.
so, you can see how bright the HID could be at night-time with a distance view.
anyone is interested to see it?

I have a Gen 1.5 with 2 HID kits, 5000K in the low beams and 3000K in the fogs.

You are getting some bad info here. First, HIDs run cooler and draw less power...FACT. People ASSume that because they are brighter they MUST be using much more power. Not so.

Secondly, my HID fogs are safe in the wet. I have mounted both ballasts behind the main headlamp assy because the wire from the ballast and igniter is long enough to reach the fog. You will find plenty of room to snake the wire down to the fog.

Thirdly....HIDs have good beam control in most modern single beam housings. My Gen 1.5 has very little glare. But in the case of Gen 2 you have reflector fogs...honestly I only use the 3000K HID kit for the contrasting colors, but the fog housings suck...they don't throw much of any kind of light anywhere, which means they also don't put out much glare. They are just cheap plastic units. Its fine to put HIDs in 'em. the 3000K kit looks exactly like OEM Lexus yellow when warmed up.

I use McColluch, which is made in China. They are a good value, surprising since they are Chinese made. My kits has been in my car about a year and I run my headlights day or night. No failures and no problems with blown fuses. I love my setup. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone if I felt they have housings of good quality. What I mean is, I won't recommend HID for stock 91 Civic headlights, but these kits work good in most newer cars, especially if the housing is single beam or fog.
