Gen2 4Cyl TRUE CAI Project Started

Postby tacti » Wed Jun 07, 2006 7:07 pm

I've been talking with local pipe shop guy, and he is looking for polished aluminum pipe for me.
i'm thinking with 3" or 2.5" one piece aluminum pipe to extend the injen SRI.
I'd like to have 3", but because of the size of the opening, it might fit in.
I will be meeting with him this weekend, and figure out the price.

I will be out of town (with no internet access cus' I'll be camping in woods for 7 days!) next tuesday to thursday of the following week.
so hopefully it will be done by end of this month.

are there anyone who's interested in this?
i don't know the price, so there's no obligation, just want to see the interest on this.
if there are some people interested in, I will make some extra when i get one for myself.

I'll update with some price info before i leave for the trip.

How different is the position of the intake on the 4Cyl compared to the V6?

I'm thinking of maybe cutting a hole in the wheel well and modding something down through there (with splash protection of course!) ;)

Injen intake for the 4 cyl is one bend pipe coming from back bottom of the engine, and heading straight toward driver side head light.
all you need to do is to move the battery from the original place so that there would be a straight path to run the pipe from SRI to the head light.

the V6 intake is facing toward the wheel well, and it cannot be connected to the extension pipe i'm making.
for v6, you probably need to cut the wheel well, and make opening there, or change the SRI itself to change the direction of the pipe opening.

so.. so far, sorry but, it will not fit for V6...

All this work to take 3-5 HP out of a car...This is why we don't and nobody else makes a CAE for the L4. Even our CAE for the V6 N/A dose not do much. But 5 years ago when Dan brought the idea to the table we saw a market for the S/C guys. The CAE on the S/C V6's dose help and dose show power gains. If anyone want to challange this...Bring it...

Good Luck,

RJ

More details about the CAI, is this just an extension for the Injen or a true CAI? Jon.

well.. It is a extension to the Injen IS2025.
extend the pipe to the back of the fog light.

Once i get mine done, i'll post some pics. (but probably it will be after i come back from the trip couple weeks later.)

btw.. isn't true cai means getting air from the out side of engine bay? or is it something else? let me know if i'm using true CAI with wrong meaning..

Clarification

Postby JMSinMaryland » Thu Jun 08, 2006 8:30 am

It was moreso addressed to RJ to clarify that the CAI he is mentioning is the Injen with extension. When I think "true CAI" I think 1 mandrel bent piece of tubing. A CAI is a bit risky for us with S/C's because the AEM bypass is not meant to be used with forced induction and a truly effective CAI risks hydrolock. Jon.

sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm interested in the follow-up of this topic. What has happened so far, and have you talked to the shop at all yet? Do I have to buy the Injen SRI before I can buy the extension, or will it come the whole kit, or what? Let us know and prices, I'm interested! also, on your site I noticed you have a JDP header for the 4cyl, no way! How'd you manage getting one of those, and how much $$?

There seemed not that many people who are interested in the route i took.

it requires moving battery so that it will open up the space for the CAI extension to go behind the fog light.

The project has been done, and i am very satisfied with the result. feel more torque especially in a hot summer day.

anyways, there are no such a thing as a kit.
you need to have injen SRI, and then have an extension with one bend goes down.
i can ask the welder if he could make another pipe, but i need to find some good time for them.
(I needed to wait for a while for him to start my project, he's doing this for me kind of as a favor.)
also i found another shop who seems to have better access to the material, so i can ask them to do some work if you would like.

anyways, took me around $100 for the parts and labor.
i got my injen for 150, so total for me was 250.
if you are interested in, i can ask if he could help me again.

also the JP header is available from the JP. ^^;
just call them and ask for the header for 2az engine.
it is direct bolt on, and you need to use some O2 simulator to resolve the problem with the missing cat converter.
(I'm too lazy to do it, so my CEL is still on)

PM me if you are interested, and i'll find some time to talk with welder.
but probably it will be sometime next week, since i'm pretty busy this week..
