Anyone on Eibachs and 20x8.5 +35 245/35-20 & NOT rubbing

Before you say it, yes i read the stickies and searched....did not find anything relevant...

Looks great but cant fix the rubbing!


So has anyone run 20x8.5 +35 245/35-20 lowered on Eibach Pro kit and figured out a way to stop the rubbing without going negative camber?

I cut the inner fender lips front and rear to within 1/8" of the edge and trimmed some of the plastic fender liner where I saw rub marks...still rubs front and rear over certain types of bumps.

I went with the +35 because I wanted them as flush with the fenders as possible..and i "thought" i could get it to work....maybe not...would hate to have to get some shorter tires to fix this as i like the sidewall the 245/35 provides...

You could roll/pull the fenders. The only problem with this is our gen2 design has the plastic bumper forming a large portion of the wheel well. If you flare at all it looks like crap because there is no way to match the flare by bending plastic, because it just returns to original position. Camber might be your best option.

Your wheels really fill the void well!

Im planning to get 20's and it sounds like the only good way to go is to get 225/35/20's with a +35-40 offset. I know the 245's have a good sidewall, but if you want the ride comfort and protection of that size sidewall you might have to go to a set of 19's. You could adjust camber a bit, but im affraid you may be going through tires faster than you'd like. Good luck, and whatever you find as a fix please let us know!

on another topic, now that i've cut my inner fender lips and have bare metal, im looking for advice on what to do to prevent rust...i was originally going to just paint it but there are some uneven surfaces that would be tough to do so...so now i'm thinking about maybe brushing on a rhino-liner type product to seal it up...that might also help with the noise when the tire/fender do make contact as its almost like a rubber itself...then again, maybe it'll wear off...thoughts?

The Rhino Liner would be the best if you are looking for an easy option. Be sure to prep the surface before applying the coat. Prep-All works great.



May not be in that exact can but any surface prep will work. You will find it in the auto section at wal-mart, by the auto touch up paint and fiberglass products.

Another, more difficult, option would be to modify the fender liners to allow more clearance by heating the plastic slowly in the spots around the wear area and then apply pressure to these areas to mold the plastic. You will want to heat the plastic from a good distance and heat it slowly to avoid burning. You could avoid the chance of burning by using a heat gun (different from hair dryer). It MAY work, but a torch would be the better option if you are careful.

clear nail polish is the ghetto cheapo way.

I dont think you can get away from rubbing, im on trd springs, 235/35R19, cut fenders and still rub on an occasion.

Those dont look like 20's with that sidewall, They look really good though, maybe you could put a spacer in so it dosent rub?

Thanks...They look bigger in person...they've got an agressive +35 offset and they're already flush up front, the rears could probably take a 1/4" spacer to be flush...but i think a spacer would make them rub even worse...im gonna give it a few days then pull them off to see if i can tell exactly where the rubbing is taking place....

Or if you have the money you could get 19's, you will get slightly better performance that way too.

i'm assuming he means use the clear nail polish to prevent rust. but i think that would last like a day..

I am going to have my fenders cut soon, and plan to use either 3m sealant or the rhino lining to fix it up. And 245's are really wide tires for 8.5 inch wheels..

and putting spacers on to stop rubbing when he is already rubbing with cut fenders...do you not know how spacers work??? really??

yes the clear nail polish, stuff is still on my fenders no rust either.

buddy did it with his 350z too.

but thats the cheapo way
