new rim advice

Postby BadAngel » Sat Jun 21, 2008 5:20 pm

Allright... i've decided that its time for rims... I am going to stick with 17's because i have brand new tires and i don't want to deal with risking cracking or scratching the rims with rubber-band tires... I really don't know what i want company wise... i was looking and Konigs but i couldn't find any of the ones i liked in the bolt pattern for our car... plus i would really rather buy them used unless you guys know a place for good deals on rims. Do you guys have any suggestions for brands or maybe even rims...

The only specs I really want are as follows:
17 inch
215 mm width
(i really don't know what to do with offset)
Black spokes or the entire rim black

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!

Well, first of all, you're not looking for a 215mm width rim, that number is applied only to the tire. You probably want a 17x7 or 17x7.5 rim with an offset between +35 and +40

Second of all, give this a try: http://www.solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t=40569

Third of all, go 18s at the very least, you won't regret it. And you won't have rubber band tires if you just choose the correct tire specs.

Well first of all i meant rims that will fit a tire thats 215mm.... And i don't want to go to 18's because i have new 17 inch tires ... and if you get an inch bigger rim you need an inch smaller tire... and i would rather not do that due to potholes and high curbs... i don't feel like cracking new rims

on 18s the tire isn't that much smaller
its actually like 1/2 inch smaller all around.....

but get 18s the ride will be much better handling wise and if u get good enough a tire the ride will even be quieter and comfortable....
otherwise i cant force u to get 18s....
good luck with ur search for 17s!!!

Take a look into tirerack.com

Use their tools to get a better idea on how it looks and the specs of tire, wheels, what fits, etc.
