papertowels arent good cause they break up.

try blowing it with compressed air

Was it completely dry after washing it - BEFORE oiling it? Just a thought...

DON'T USE COMPRESSED AIR!

If you OVER-OILED it, (show a pic, I'll tell you...), then the BEST thing to do is to RE-WASH it with the proper degreaser... then let it dry thoroughly.

When you RE-OIL it:

- If you are using a SPRAY oil... then used SHORT, INTERMITTENT bursts of spray in LIGHT streaks LENGTHWISE up the ribs... JUST ENOUGH with each spray to GENTLY color the PEAKS or RIDGES of the filter element...

- If you are applying with the FLUID oil, then GENTLY squeeze a MODEST BEAD along the PEAKS/RIDGES of each rib in a "QUICK DRAG" along the length from end to end... (DO ONE RIDGE AT A TIME!!! TAKE YOUR TIME!!!)

IN EITHER CASE, ONLY APPLY ENOUGH TO CREATE COLOR DIFFERENTIAL BETWEEN THE UN-OILED VALLEY of each rib, and the RIDGE, which should be MODESTLY OILED as first.

- LET THE OIL WICK INTO THE REST OF THE COTTON ELEMENT....

Once the color is EVEN, if it is PALE, or DOES NOT WICK to an EVEN distribution after about an hour... APPLY A LITTLE MORE AT A TIME in the SAME MANNER, and REPEAT until the filter is a nice HEALTHY MOIST, but NOT DRIPPING or DARKLY SATURATED.

Cotton Guaze Element filters SHOULD NOT be run while DRY... NOR should they be run TOO WET.

Good Luck!

NOTE: I don't recommend EXPEDITING the drying time... AIR DRYING is the best to maintain the proper physical properties of the cotton element...

Big NO NO...use paper towels, fold them up and place them in each crease/gap of your cone filter, that's what I used to do when I over oiled it. Leave the paper towels there for a few hours and when you remove them every inch of the paper towel should be soaked up with the oil. This method worked for me, goodluck.

^^^ From what I can tell between the two photos... you can bolt it on and RUN IT!

(That doesn't look saturated enough to restrict your airflow too much. I STILL think it will flow better than stock paper element filters from the appearance, and the "moderate" appearing "over-oiling" is not going to cause an issue. It will begin to "pale-out" again with some miles...)
