Pre-'07 HVAC lighting and behaviour

Postby Down2TheC » Thu Nov 30, 2006 9:36 pm

Hmmm... I may price out the '07 HVAC, but I imagine the price is huge just to get blue lights. Then I'd have to change the upper console guages too. Three LCD's. Getting pricey for lighting. But maybe.

One more Q for the '07 crew. The '04 HVAC selects fresh or recirc air even when you're on manual. Always pissed me off. 80 deg outside, 110 in the car, and it chooses recirc. MORON! If the '07 fixed that too then I might be more inclined to do the swap. Manual should mean MANUAL!

That's been happening since the Gen1 days (my 99 SLE does that too), and all you need to do is hit the fresh/recirc button to override it. However, it should be noted that recirc actually cools the air faster than fresh air; even old-school US cars with only 3 knobs (mode, fan and temp, no fresh/recirc) feature "MAX AC" as circulated air and all other modes as fresh air.

True... but I'm a ragtop guy. Top goes down and I have to hit the button to get fresh air instead of hot foot well air. A/C is not on. It's just one more button to press before I roll. Not a huge deal but irksome nonetheless. My '92 Camry had fresh selected for it's entire existance. Should have just removed that lever.

I know what you mean; I do hate the automatic recirculation mode... Sometimes it stays that way for too long and eventually promotes mold growth and makes the air stale, which forces me to leave the fan on in fresh before I shut off the car to prevent it from reverting. Heck, the only time I use the recirc is if I'm behind an old school bus that spews tons of unprocessed diesel at you (or similar truck/stench) or on a cold day where I don't want the air to come in while the heater is off.

I did not understand you at first. I thought you meant auto recirculate when the AC is on. That is the same in my 06, but if the AC is off, this does not happen.

If I didn't have the AC on when the car was turned off, when I start the car, the recirculate feature stays in the position I last had it (i.e.: if on fresh air, it stays there). Recirculate is only automatically selected if the AC is ON in my car.

No prob. I'll double check the next time I go out (tomorrow morning) just to be sure, but I'm 99% sure since I hate the auto recirculate on AC too.

I know how to push a button, and if I wanted it on, I'd put it on. :D

I'll be super jealous if you get it, cuz you'll be mostly blue then :(

...hmmmmm.....

Thanks for the walk-thru... VERY NICE!

COSMIC BLUE here.... EVERYTHING I HAVE IS BLUE....

Gotta have the blue display!

Since I'm an SE SPORT and have the MANUAL dials for HVAC, NOT THE BIG MISMATCH! Actually, not a bad combo... (I can live with the "tri-pod" greeness... and I've got the DARK speedo/tach pod faces... not that I wouldn't LIKE the white... but... I dunno...)

ANYWAY... I'm LIKIN' the idea of that '07 unit... You are showing on your SLE, same compatibility swapping for my JBL? Still compatible with the spec usa aux input box? (It hasn't arrived yet...)

You'll know if I'm bidding on one...

-crisp :evilbat: :drinking: ....hmmmmm.... a nice muscato tonight... *smack*

Yeah. The CD Changer/aux port is still there. Just moved a little as you can see from the pics. (the smaller port nearly square.)

OK, I can confirm that I am correct.

This morning I tried the following:

Turned the HVAC on, with AC off and pressed the OFF buttton, then the fan button to turn it back on. The HVAC stayed on fresh air.

I also turned the car off (and removed key) with the HVAC on (AC off) and replaced the key and started the car back up. The car stayed on fresh air. So, this must be something they changed for 06.

As I said, if my AC is on, recirculate is always preselceted.

LOL...I tried to google search it, but nothing came up. I'll bet you have two choices, juckyard (not likely you'll find something easily there - too new) and dealer (AAACK!).

If you do decide to do this, you might as well go all the way and swap out the trip computer/clock/temp too :D
