CP-e INTAKE KIT....

CP-e INTAKE KIT....

Postby crispone » Tue Sep 19, 2006 7:07 am

CP-e intake..... BUMMER! I ordered but just got a call from one of the owners personally notifying me that there are none on the shelf and lead-time for next batch is uncertain! He said they were definitely going to do mine for me, but they couldn't speculate on getting material in (bending delays...) for the 3.5" plumbing. DRAT! :(

I guess I can afford to put the HIDs in the low beams until then, eh?

(He said response from the few they have sold has been GREAT.... just not a high-demand item... so, COME'ON GUYS! Order your intakes TODAY!!!)

I put out the warning a couple months ago when they had five pipes on the shelf. Get me, I'm freakin' Carnac!

You can blame Sebas... he's the one that opened up the '06 market. 8)

They both use the same 3.5" pipe and then get finished with different welds/mounts. So you'll get the same answer. Only possible exception would be if they kitted up a Gen 1 pipe and someone returned it.

Go to the website for numbers. They have an answering service now if noone's in the shop.

wooohooo..... maybe + TRD exhaust experience...

Postby crispone » Thu Sep 21, 2006 8:37 pm

Very cool.... I hope. Dropped a note to Josh about the order... made it clear I'm "IN" for the wait to get it... I just got popped a mail that my unit shipped and is due here TOMORROW already!!! (If it comes, Josh is gonna hear back from ME!)

Da' mann.....

Oh yeah... got back from 36 hours covered over a thousand miles had four meetings in two different countries since yesterday... and pulled in to find my TRD exhaust on the porch.

TRD EXHAUST:

"....two bolts, this oughtta take 5 minutes...."

note to self: don't install in the dark on a sheet of cardboard with the vehicle sitting as you parked it. My back hurts, I fried 12 Dremel disks, my neck won't turn, my fingers are raw, my shouler is wrenched, I ended up trying everything from a proper socket w/breaker bar to a cold chisel, makita sawsall, and finally, an angle grinder JUST TO REMOVE the two damn nuts from the stock pipe! Ended up disconnecting the muffler so it could "hang down" lower and let me actually get TO the damn things. It took me the first hour getting the old pipe off.... happened to have a crush ring that was the right size, but the stock one was intact and I reused it. (none in the kit) Didn't unwrap the TRD until after it was secured to prevent scratching. Install took less than 5 minutes. In a muffler shop or with the car on ramps, this is probably a pretty quick DIY with a couple standard tools. You should have a torch, sawsall, or grinder for those two bolts, otherwise, pay a muffler shop 20-30 to slap it on.

RESULTS:

Fairly tame sound. Nice and throaty.... the TRD is solid, "shiny", and has a nice direct route through the canister out a classy pipe. (You won't look like a squid here... it's a subtle message but a good one.) I'm thinkin' you need to clear the clogged cats (there appear to be THREE) so it can breath and match the TRD diameter from the headers back with a straight run that is mated into the TRD. (For REALLY good flow and more menacing sound!) I wonder if the manifold cat sensors (pre and post) will "mis-read" if there is a change in the temperature hysterisis between the two if the media is cleared? What? I'm rambling you say? TRD sounds nice and improves response and acceleration in a subtle but pleasant way.... two thumbs up! Now for the intake!

Crisp - the nice combo is when you up-shift to get the low RPM throaty rumble, then downshift and punch it to get the screaming intake sound - great combo IMO! ;)

Sorry to hear about the stock muffler being such a beotch to take off though! I was lucky that I only had about 2K miles on mine when I swapped - took 15-20 min tops, and without jacking up the car.

...actually, I don't deserve any pity... I just HAD to throw it on RIGHT AWAY! Should have been a little patient and done it right, but the result is SUCCESS and getting to drive it w/a little more snap immediately this morning! Your pics showed absolutely sanitary conditions under yours from my recollection! And everyone should crawl under and look at the rear linkage. It's quite well structured and appeared pretty substantial, yet nimble IMHO. I'm very happy with the first 100 miles I threw on the TRD in my brief driving today. I'd recommend the TRD to anyone. Fit, finish, construction and flow are all well delivered. I'm sure it'll flow what I can generate in reduced restriction upstream. (Considering this things N/A.) The gen 1 threads had that nice cat eliminator Y pipe they got goin' on. I'd throw one on mine in a heartbeat! Figure it might help someone who actually WANTS to hear some details on products and experiences with purchase, install, and use. Just skip my details if I'm boring you vets out there, eh?

Oh yeah.... got notice from FEDEX online that my tracking showed a MONDAY delivery for the package from CP-e.... I'm PSYCHED! (Prepare yourselves for the "skinny" on the intake... )

What should come next? TRD springs, HIDS, Rear torsion bar, strut brace...? It's all only a matter of time.

Never! We can still appreciate anyone's new-found love with a mod! :D

Heck - I've had mine on over 6 months now and I STILL love to hear it!

Next step - RSB and FSTB - you won't BELIEVE the stability of your ride after those two mods alone!!

I'd really like to get TRD springs too, but I'm going to have to find some help putting them on once I get them...

I remember when I finally got around to dropping my MK I supra with a TOKIKO race kit (pretty firm) and front/rear torsion bars from Suspension Techniques... I was running 245's on the stock rims, black car w/tint, and you remember the big wheel flares on the early generation supras.... very menacing looking stance! That thing was like a go-cart after that! (Much more harsh than I would want on my Solara, mind you!) I STILL love the full HKS valved TEMS sprint/strut/controller set on my MK III supra... the FIRM position in LOCKED mode is fantastic for aggressive highway driving!

I'll take your suggestion to heart and look at the front/rear bracing... easy to do in the dark on a sheet of cardboard (rear) after a thousand mile drive.... oh yeah, I already learned that lesson, didn't I?
