Who have both HID (headlight + fog) ??

Postby Sebas007 » Tue Aug 15, 2006 6:11 pm

Hi guys,

I wanna buy 5300K H11 (Headlight) and 5300K H10 (Fog light)...I just wanna know where the ballast are installed for the fog light ?? And what I have to do to reach the fog. I read several post but never talk too much of the fog setup.

Thanks !! 8)

I haven't tried HIDs in the fogs, but was going to consider another projector fog altogether (Search the forums - its here somewhere) ;)

But I'm not sure if the factory plastic Fogs can handle the heat of HID - can they? Most HID kits have their own wiring harness, so the OEM is just used as a trigger to turn them on.

getting to the fog you have 2 options... you can either go into the wheelwell or under the front bumper (this you need umm i think 10mm). i recomend the wheelwell cause you have more room and it's only dealing with the pop off plastic screws (whatever you call'em)... being a hefty guy like me... thats what i chose when i tinted my fogs.

If I buy some proper ballast....do the fog plastic would take it without melding ?? I would like to have all the same color, it's why my setup is 5300K up and down...There is a good reason about choosing a 3000k fog ??

1) Why would you want HIDs in your fogs? Its a fact that HIDs dont perform as well as halogens in rainy conditions. Thats why no cars (that I know of) come with HID foggies from the factory.

2) Mounting ballasts that low to the ground is a risk. A wet ballast could turn into a huge problem.

3) Putting HIDs into reflectors is glare city.

The HID system will put out MUCH LESS heat than regular halogen bulbs- they burn cooler and use a lot less energy. I can't imagine that they would melt any housings.

It is my main concern !!!

I'll go with HID only on the headlight and change to some NoKia, PIAA H10 for the fog.

Do some of you change their hi-beam for some 9005 Bulbs ??
I would like to make it clean...same color for the low/hi beam...can the Solara Gen 2 can handle it ?

thanks

Its is true that HIDs only use 35 watts (halogens use 55) but at ignition, you draw up to 13 amps (halogens use only 7) which can lead to blown fuses or worse, especially if you run HIDs in the headlights and in the fogs.
