Be careful and good luck if you decided to go thru with this project. There's many of those on ebay.

Don't know if they work, but I saw a white Gen2 the other day that had these installed. The sensors stuck out like a sore thumb (black on white) and looked horrible.

Whatever you do, paint them the color of your car!!

Yes, they were black, so if you have a black car they shouldn't look bad. The only thing I'd be afraid of is that the black wouldn't match. The black ones I saw on the white car seemed to be a deep shiny color, so perhaps they'd look OK.

Acouple of things I'd watch out for, just from reading the auction:

1. Seller is in the UK and only has 602 feedback (6 negative and 10 neutral)

2. The auction makes no mention of how you connect the sensors to the car (transmission) so it can tell if you are in reverse. Doesn't seem so "easy" to me.

3. Sensor range 4.5 meters. Ok, so that's 14 feet, and that seems like a long way, but with possible interference, perhaps it;s not. You might end up having to puth this thing in the rear or hardwiring it (pain in the A$$).

If it were me, I'd try to find the system locally. this way, if something was wrong, it would be easier to return.

Also, if you install yourself, i'd fins a way to rig it without driling holes and test it before you permanently maul your bumper.

I guess, in my opinion, these are not worth it unless it comes with the car. When OEM, you know they work and you don't have to mess up wour bumper.

Just my honest opinion...

Just call up your local toyota dealership and ask who they recommend. More than likely they outsource it to someone locally. Then you contact them and research them on bbb and stuff like that. Here in houston, there are a couple of them who are reputed. They make the sensors in different colors, the colors are generic (black, white, green, brown, champaign, etc). Use the one that best matches your car. good luck

I agree with Jai Jai, if you really want them, don't give up. Start shopping around. You may find a good deal near you and you'll get to see the product before you buy. You can make a much better judgement then.

The display on the one from Ebay looked a little odd.

FYI-

I'd love to hear some real-life experiences on these myself. I'd been scouring ebay for a couple of weeks and am really seriously looking at doing it. And ironically, I had a rear-end encounter with an STS backing out this week. Now my mind is made up.

Bare in mind that I have a ragtop, and the visibility out the rear with the narrow window and high trunk is just about zero. If I find a set and install it, I'll post my results.

BTW- A guy at work has them on his Solara, and I think they look fine. I'm on vacation, but when I get back I'll take a couple of pics and post them.

I'm sure they do look fine, if they are the same color as his car. I said that the one's I saw looked bad because they were black on white.

Also, I was suspect of the quality of the ones on Ebay. I wasn't saying not to get them at all, or anything, just maybe not from that seller on Ebay.

They don't hook up to the tranny. They get power from your backup lights. The unit is unpowered normally, but when you put the car in reverse, the power to the backup lights starts the unit up and it operates continuously as long as you're in reverse. Some allow you to 'turn it off' permanently. It's a fairly clean setup.

There are also ones that work in the front of your car. What I've read, is that they're triggered off the brake lights (as long as you're not in reverse) but I'm not interested in those.
