Carbon Fiber Parts (cf hood fenders and the like) Group Buy

After some browsing, I stumbled across Seibon.com to find something for our application. I came up empty handed. As we all know "custom" sometimes = higher $$$. I checked out their FAQ and found the answer to my question: http://www.seibon.com/faq.asp#q26
I figured 20 orders wouldn't be too difficult so I sent them an email asking them if they could make X, Y, & Z and at what price. This is their response:

    "Dear Julius,

First of all, thank you for writing to us. We could make the hood, fenders, trunk, and lip kit for Solara. However, there must be enough interests for us to make all these parts. We need to produce minimum 50 pieces for each product to cover the mold cost. Plus the shortage on carbon fiber, the price is higher than before. Do you think the Solara market is big enough? Are people willing to pay $600 for a OE style hood? $2000 for the doors? If the Solara market can meet with our requirements we will be glad to make the parts right way. Please let me know what do you think on this project.

    Thanks,

    Seibon International, Inc.

Now, 600$ seems a bit high to me especially after finding a cf hood on the ECC Motor Sports website for 430$ or for 380$ on eBay from the same company. (Both totals include S&H) I would not mind a new front-end for the Solara but I'd have to see it first; I think stock looks great! Fenders would be nice as would a trunk but I'd like a matching carbon fiber spoiler or 'lip'.

Anyone interested in in a group buy? Their site says 20 but the email says 50. I dunno if they'll budge but we'll see. Anyone have any other questions for them - I'll gladly fire off an email.

what does he mean, $2000 for the doors? I'm seriously laughing that that guy wants $600 for a hood, he's already a rip off.

I agree - I'm not spending 2k on doors. If I can get a 'grade a' cf hood from company X at 380 I'm not spending an extra 220 for the same hood just to make someone elses pocket fatter. I should call em out on that - but again: people who buy that stuff pay for 'custom' products and for the name beind it - or they're naive.

Yea, I'm sure they can make a grille - if you look on seibon.com, they make hoods, lip & rear spoilers, side skirts, trunk lids, eye brows/lids, fenders, front grille, doors, hard tops & seats.

Meh - not that interested in overpriced CF components personally... If I had that kind of $$ to blow, it would be for perfromance stuff like an overpriced Big Brake kit and custom Turbo or S/C!

Thanks for checking on it though - any information is appreciated! :)

Just a side note... The CF hoods for the Gen2 that can currently be found are complete and utter garbage... They are flimsy, misshapen, and do not latch properly (without usage of hood pins).

If it's a couple hundred dollar difference for a substantial increase in quality, I'd consider that to be worth while instead of purchasing a POS generic and having to double down later on to replace it when it gets screwed up...

I'm not against paying $$ or $$$$ for [quality] parts; but if one can get product A from company Z or the same product A from company X both of which are the same exact thing & of the same quality and the only difference is their company sticker on it: Why pay the extra $?

whats this bumper you/he speak(s) of?
