The '06 apparently had a MAF calibration change or maybe a whole new part. The cp-e "customizer" needs to be tuned to this change or it runs rich. So... we need a SG donor that can get to Beltsville MD for a day for an install and tune. There are several '06 owners waiting to buy the pipe so the sooner the better. They'll do the install then tune the chip for your car so they can set up '06 Solara kits for the masses. Shouldn't take more that six hours.

Not sure if Josh will throw down a deal for you but you can work that out with him if you're interested. You're already getting dyno stats and a free install but I'm sure Josh will work with you to make it worth the drive.

Tag me or tag them if you can do it.

P.S. Thanks to Sebastian for doing the dyno runs. You have lots of options but you should keep the pipe for the good price and just have them send you a new chip once they rework the tuning. (imo)

For the '06 guys waiting for the product, once they get the new tuning in the chip they can ship. If it changes the performance stats, they'll present the new dyno's. I guess Toyota did make some ECU firmware changes... maybe that's why the lag is back.

First I would say that I'm set to be there in May. I would had done the tuning part of it...but the guy at the Dyno shop told me that even getting a great air\fuel mixture on the dyno it's not enough....that on the road it will be different...and so on that could take several hours even days to tune it properly. So, as CP-e would pay for dyno time only if I succeed, I decided to not take this chance...I offer them to go there 625 miles...for Easter week-end...they choose to not make it (they had scheduled work on a 2005 Mazda 6). I told them that I can be there on May 19th ( I thought that they wanted the car for 2-3 days)...now that I know that 1 day would be enough I could be there sooner. Yeah I know I will keep my stuff and they will just send me back the tuned air/fuel mixture chart.


Since I did the Dyno run I think I got a pretty good idea how to tune it properly. Talking of that, my "stock" 2006 Solara (TRD Muffler and K&N air filter) did 185hp/198.5 pounds torque (I don't remeber well the RPM for those 2 measurements). The mixture become so rich quickly with the chip....10 and above at around 4400 RPM. Even stock the 3.3L V6 become pretty rich at high rev (around 5700 + near cut-off) It's maybe to protect the engine as a rich mixture is a lot less "damageable" than a lean one. I think that on this same dyno with a well tune chip I coul be near 200 whp !!


So, I will be probably then on that will bring his 06 Solara there...

The chip by design is supposed to lean out the mix like on the '04. That's where the power comes from.
And the shop you used would not be able to tune the cp-e chip. They need the cp-e software and a much better Dyno tool for measuring the mix. DynoJet is great for a standard run, but for R&D, cp-e built theirs from scratch and it does MUCH more. That's why they weren't into it. If noone jumps in for a quicker MD run, I'm sure they'll take you up on the May offer. But with you driving from Canada, they'd want some "oh crap" time built into the trip.

Yeah I know about leaning the mixture to get the power...it's why I said that it's full of power potential because it was giving almost the same result has stock but with too rich mixture...leaning it will give great results !! Sorry but I didn't get

First off, I'm one of the '06 owners patiently(?) waiting. I'd put my order in about a month ago, but to CP-e's credit, they would not ship the unit even though they originally thought the 'unknown Texan' was wrong.

Not sure if Josh will throw down a deal for you but you can work that out with him if you're interested. You're already getting dyno stats and a free install but I'm sure Josh will work with you to make it worth the drive.

Josh sent me an e-mail IN ALL CAPS asking to help him find someone to go down to MD, and said they'd pay for the hotel. I don't know if there's any more to the deal, but at least it sounds like their anxious to fix the problem - and maybe land a few more sales.

He's saying that it should only take a day, but if you're driving all the way from Canada, they'd want to schedule an extra day or so just in case something goes wrong. That way, they wouldn't have to wait a month for your next visit. If the donor lived close, he could always come back the following weekend, etc.

It can be this week-end or the next also...I wait for a confirmation from Josh. But I find them a bit short on time...I have to do reservation for friday for hotel and we are wenesdsay of the same week !!
