TRD Exhaust Installation

How the heck did you guys get the two bolts/nuts off of the stock exhaust?

I've tried, for the last hour to get the damn things off... is it welded on or something?

Remove the nuts, but the studs are welded to the OE muffler.

The TRD muffler doesn't come with new bolts, so you'll need to head to the hardware store to get some new ones. Go with stainless steel. You'll be glad when you remove them.

That would be a good idea.
Use some PBlaster and it will make takin' the bolts off better.

Correct: No gasket included.

I reused mine along with some RTV copper sealant. No leaks at all.

Yup - or you can try WD-40, liquid wrench, or any similar product

Spray on and let it sit for a little bit

Dang... I swore I sprayed almost half a can of the PB Blaster stuff (on ONE nut) and it still won't budge... I think I stripped one of the nuts in the process... I was SO happy when the wrench moved, only to be let down when I found out the wrench would almost rotate freely now :x

I guess I'll have to go borrow some power tools...

(on the brighter side, that PB Blaster stuff did WONDERS for my outdoor mailbox lock!)

Hey, thanks for noticing! I'm just sorry I haven't been able to make it to more meets (work and planning for a wedding... well, mostly work :)

Maybe but I'm sure they'd remove yours for $10. Then drive home loud and install the new one. (Can you say P-grinder?)

I don't want to be insulting when I say this ...

I'm confused. This took me about 8 minutes to change mufflers. (6 of which was jacking up the car.) This is the easiest mod on the car. So something is going wrong for you. With this being an SLE, you may not need to jack up the car. (If you're not lowered already.) The SE Sports definately need to be jacked up. The body kit gets in the way of crawling under.

When removing the nuts, use a breaker bar, not a ratchet. (A breakerbar is a ratchet that does not rotate.) This will save your ratchet from undue stress. If it still won't budge, use an extension on the handle. (A cheater bar). Basicly, this is a piece of tube that can slide over the end of the cheater bar and make the handle longer. The longer the bar, the more leverage you will have to break the nuts loose. They are tough, so don't give up. You'll hear a huge creak when they are coming loose. Hit it again with the penetrating spray and go at it.

Once the nuts are off, you'll have the muffler changed in a couple minutes.

Just to clarify, you should only have to remove two nuts, right? The other six don't need to be removed, as the muffler's hooks slide out of the rubber gromets.

I'll be installing my muffler soon. What size bolts should I ask for and how many will I need. I would like to be prepared. I will also pick up some Copper sealant too. Thanks for the info.
