How much for moonroof install?

How much for moonroof install?

Postby kgzero1 » Wed Oct 19, 2005 2:44 pm

Hi guys,

I wanted to know if any of you have an idea of how much it would cost for me to get a moonroof installed on the Solara, either from Dealer or Aftermarket.

What is the difference between that and a sunroff by the way? Maybe I mean a sunroof. :-?

a typical aftermarket roof install will be around $995 if it is a full feature inbuilt..

A sunroof is opaque; a moonroof is translucent. Moonroofs (hm... why isn't it moonrooves?) usually have a layer of glass on the outside, and an interior clothlike layor that opens and closes (allows you to look out without the moonroof being physically open).

Correct me if I'm wrong.

the moonroof is all the way open(to see the moon) and the sunroof is tilted up (to shade the sun).

AAAHHHH!!!!!
So I guess a sunroof is a metal panel (not see through) that the old cars usually have. And a moonroof is a sunroof that is made out of glass instead of metal. Right??????

Anyway, so looks like I am looking at around $1k for a sunroof.
Any socal places you guys recommend? And is what kingkakyle said true?

Hmm...dunno...my max had a sunroof and it opened up and slid open all the way.

Have doubts about his answer....I have a moonroof...opens all the way and tilts up...but its shaded.

This is the definition regarding moonroof given in sunroofs.org

What is the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof?
Sunroof is the generic term used to describe an operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air. Moonroof is a term created by Ford in the 70's, yet is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs

I wouldnt get it either. if it didnt come with the car, the aftermarket one will start leaking.its a fact and the dealership told me they do also.I went looking for a solara with a sunroof anyway because it came with the package, but why didnt you just wait to get a car with one already? You're gonna have probs & regret getting one.I'de hold off and put the $$ towards something else to ur ride :)

If you're looking aftermarket, you might want to find someone that has a warranty against leakage for x number of years (I vaguely remember ten...)

Probably more expensive, but its probably worth it...
