Engine quandary....

I know I was supposed to look through the forum for this question before hand, but I am just kind of excited that i found this forum, and instead of answering my question maybe you can just tell me where I can find this topic but anyways..

I was wondering if anyone has heard of a successful engine swap for the I-4? and If not, what engine would you suggest? Possibly 3S-GTE or, dare I dream, 2JZ? And can you suggest any experts I should talk to on either the engine or the car itself? Thanks!

money talks, what is your aim from a swap? make it go faster, reach certain time slips for the 1/4 mile?
i4-> 1mz v6 swap, you would be looking at close to 2K in parts+Labor
i4 -> 2jz, have you measured to see if everything fits, HINT HINT "FIREWALL"
i4 -> 3sgte, man...just buy a gen 5 or 6 celica and do the swap there, its MUCH easier, or buy a 5sfe mr2 and do the swap there...for the price you'll make your solara 3sg swap, you could buy a seized st184 and mate that with the 3s engine!

My intentions are to build a road race, drag, street legal solara. And I'm willing to pay whatever it takes. Also with the right power plant I hope to get into drifting. Your feedback has been great so far, and i appreciate your kindness.

Huh?

Postby mmcdonald » Mon Jan 03, 2005 8:53 am

Don't you need a rear wheel drive car for successful drifting? And why drift anyway? That is like Cayman golf. It works, but really only in a land poor environment.

Why not just road race? We have plenty of room in the States for normal sized race tracks, we don't need to get into a road race format developed for a land-poor country like Japan. (I know it started on the streets there, same issue.)

Use the road, not your tires.

Oh, and if money is no object, how about getting a 350Z to start with, or a Porsche anything. They drift just fine with that rear overhang. Or a Mustang GT or Cobra, or...

isnt the 2jz for a rear wheel drive car...and the solara is front wheel...so how would that work...the two types of engines are designed much much differently...im probably wrong though haha im just a noob mechanic

Our cars cannot be used successfully to drift unless you made it rear wheel drive. Plus, I don't understand why you would take an expensive car to beat on. There are plenty of high ponied vehicles that would cost much less and be more "drift ready" for a lesser price tag.
