clicking sound ?

Postby Aotoyota » Sat Aug 15, 2009 9:25 am

I recently took the car into toyota for a bad clicking sound
coming from the front left. they found that my intermediate
shaft ( knuckle) on the steering column was worn. We
replaced it and gone!

But in the process, they found a second click noise from
the left front shock area.. They said it was the kyb shock
mount which I replaced. then they said it was the kyb shock
which I then replaced.

and after all that was changed it's still there?
the clicking sound happens when i turn left at rolling speeds?
has this happen to anyone here?

No but could the noise be from the clock-spring inside the steering wheel? or possibly slack in the tie rods

Thats possible but you'd think being at a dealer they would've checked the bearings.?

Well I can tell you from experience, if a dealer can push a repair onto the cust especially if you have modified the vehicle they will in a heart beat.
Claiming that you "modified so and so part" and will usually void the warranty for the effected parts.
IE: you put a different muffler on they will drop your exaust warranty or put a restriction on it.
anyway, just jackup the front end and push/pull on the top and botem of the tires and see if there is slack. if there is , probly a wheel bearing.

the dealer here is pretty cool south bay toyota in so cal if anyone is wondering. I know they usually bs you over every little thing but my service guy has a fixed up supra so he and his team are nice about it.

i replaced the shock and mount myself and now im reaching out to everyone to see what else it could be.

system crash- i did that and not much play compared to the right side.
the dealer also opened up my cv boots and regreased everything under there the first time.

If its a bad cv joint, fresh grease wont help it. cv joint might be bad if it only happens when you turn.

take it back to the dealer and pitch a bitch, they replaced parts and havent fixed it, so you dont know if the parts were good or not, demand they fix it for free, or you'll report them, and you'll post the shabby business practices on the internet.................. :drinking:
