How bright? This bright?

I just bought some hyper white ones at Pep Boys. Check eBay for some. That's the best you'll get without having to retro some headlights.

I want to increase the brightness of my back up lights to help my camera display better.

Has anyone had any issues with the ones mentioned in this thread as far as additional heat within the plastic lens?

I have a 2006 SLE Convertible.

Thank you !!!

at first in my gen 1, i had white leds, but those suck, strictly only show, even with the wide angled ones.. suck>
im goin back to the halogen bulbs, and may just do what solaraguy22 did with the hyperwhites, as I have the backup camera and it'd help a lot when i reverse out at night.

One last question on this subject.. is there a trick to removing the bulb socket from the holder?

I pulled out the felt type cutout and found the bulbs.. but couldn't easily figure out how to pull the socket out.. I didn't want to break it trying.

Well, to get the bulb out, all you do is twist the socket. And it should then become really loose and pop open. As for getting brighter output there there are 2 options. You could try for a brighter bulb or a "hyper white" (which is usualy dimmer) but i've also seen higher wattage bulbs. Try to find a eurpoean bulb maker that makes higher wattage of the same style that fits in there. The other thing you could do is the 07 tail light swap. With this (combined with the turn signal mod for the LEDS) you can use the blinker section as a backup. This made a HUGE difference compared to my 04 tail lights and it is very bright in the back. Do keep in mind that you will need to purchase new bulbs for that as the ones from the old tail lights are not the same type as the blinker bulb socket. Talk to reggie to get yourself a good deal on the tail lights.
