Shift Knob (Lexus?)

Shift Knob (Lexus?)

Postby HomeboyMI » Wed Nov 22, 2006 7:09 pm

I would like to replace the stock shift knob in my car. I looked at some of the knobs displayed in auto parts stores and they look cheap. I was thinking I could get a Lexus knob for my Solara. Will a Lexus knob fit???

Thanks

The Automatic shift knobs will fit the automatics and the Mannys will fit the Manny's but you cant use an auto on a manny or vice versa. Just screw it off and screw it on. e-z.

Even on the Gen 2s?? There's no OD button on the AT in Gen 2s.

Are you sayins the Lexus knob has an OD button on it? If so, just don't wire it anywhere unless you really want to take the time to do that. In that case, good for you, the button actually does something.

Sorry. the 5-spd automatic tiptronics without the button I'm sure will fit. Don't know about the knobs with the buttons built in. I drive a manual so I forgot those things still existed. To be sure check with the parts dept and ask what the thread diameter is. The manual tranys' have used 12mm x 1.25 forever. The automatics are a bit smaller in diameter.

Does anybody know the width of the stick where the knob goes on to for AT? I'm thinking of putting a universal knob on mine because I founf one that looks really nice.

Knob

Postby HomeboyMI » Wed Nov 29, 2006 6:30 pm

I have found that the shift shaft threads on my Solara are 8mmX1.25. The hole of the stock knob is 2 1/2 inches deep with the threads the last one inch. I would be interested to know if the knob off a Lexus IS will fit the Solara. I don't think the knob is as tall as the Solara. The Solara knob is 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide at the widest point.

Thanks for those dimension, it should help me a lot in finding the right aftermarket knob. I'll post some links up soon to see what everyone thinks and if they fit. Do the AT knobs just unscrew, then? I noticed I can turn mine (unscrew I guess), but I never tried to unscrew it more than 1/4 turn.

Ok, before I embark on my shift knob finding venture, yet one more question. Does it need to be an AT shift knob or can it be an MT one? Seeing how there is no button to push on the knob, shouldn't an MT knob work? IDK, that's why I'm asking, thanks!

That question was already answered...

And the reason for this (I think) is that the diameters are different...
