I have been studying tires for my next purchase as well....

Here is what I have narrowed it down to:

The Potenza's are very well rated here, and I currently have a "lesser" Potenza and have to say, they track very well, are EXTREMELY quiet, provide a well suspended ride, and show very good and even wear after the first 20k miles... Furthermore, I have a local shop owner who deals in tires, he went out and thrashed BMW's at a testing course wearing all the comparable high-end all-season tires in dry and water-washed conditions... he said the turn-in with the Potenza's was MUCH better than Michelin's and the like... I'm convinced on the RE960AS Pole Positions from the user feedback I've read as well.

As for the Yokohama's recommended above, they were not among the "Ultra High Performance All-Season", just the "High Performance All Season", and even then, they fell short of others....

For myself, the ride and QUIET rating, as well as the ability to disperse water, specifically "hydroplaning resistance" are of PARAMOUNT importance.

I will also be looking for new tires soon. I live in Massasuchetts where we could get a lot of snow, about over a foot. I do not want to spend extra money for winter tires. What is my best option for tires? Thanks.

Hey Big.... all I have to say is TOYO.... I have the Proxes 4's on my lara and Classy has the Proxes TPT... they are great.. they handle wonderful in all weather.. we had Proxes TPT's on my Lara when we drove out to Cali from AL and they were great.... I love how my Lara handles with the 4's... they are a great tire....
oh yea.. BTW MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I did not care for my proxes... not too good in weather, hydroplaning always disconcerting, ride moderate, handling pretty good - could push in turn-in, treadwear - good, I thought...

anyway, I don't see the Toyo's in the comparo's linked in this thread... but that's my personal use opinion against a median level Bridgestone Potenza RE92A 225/50/17 that I'm using now... and I intend to step up from these to the RE960AS Pole Positions at the moment... so I wouldn't recommend the Toyo's if you drive in weather... IMO.

I'd be interested in what other people thought of the Toyo's? Maybe my experience doesn't reflect accurately on them? (Lateral grip on my RE92's was not as good as the Toyo's, but more pliant and overall, a better tire for ride/comfort/weather performance... I'm sure the 960's are gonna be NICE!)

I'm selling a slightly used, staggered set of Michelin Pilots (245/45/18s & 225/45/18s) for $200 local p-up if you're interested.

I put on Michelin tires onto my vehicle (they're the highest-end of the Michelin line carried by Costco). I've found them to be (relative to OEM) quieter and smoother rider. They seem to grip much better with far fewer "Trac" lights going to during jackrabbit starts on slick pavement.

Snow going has been great. I've even been able to power through heavy, heavy drifts (albeit with trac off) without incident.

I actually just put on the kumho Ecsta ASX on my gen 1, its very quiet and a very stable tire, as far as wet traction goes i think its pretty good as well. For the money, i don't think you can get a better tire then the kumho, o and its also ZR rated .

I too just put Kumho Ecsta's on my ride (235/45/18s) and so far I love them! Much quieter than the Michelins and they really grip the road better! The ride is smoother too - surprising for such cheap tires!
