Postby steve-o » Sat Sep 09, 2006 9:18 am

I was about to do this. I decided not to because I'd get confused and forget wich direction I was going.. :). Seriousely though.. Can you view the rear ALL of the time or just in reverse?.

There is no place to plug in the backup unit in the 2007. Glad you put the picture up, the white 4 pin connection is gone. Just tried to have it done with the bec-105. Same insides but diff. company putting unit out, Denso. All connections are being used from factory but for the one for sat. radio.

These cameras are on eBay all the time, some at very good prices. I recall some months ago a post saying the camera on their Gen 2 was mounted just above the rear License Plate. The wire was routed with the plate light wire, no holes were drilled. It plugs right into the rear of nav unit. There has been posts in the past that show the rear of the unit. My question has also been, that my car came with the rear back up sensors. I've always wondered it those sensors may have used the plug on the rear of the nav, thus making camera installation impossible.

Your rear backup sensors most likely do not use the same plug... it's almost certain that they're tapped into the reverse lights...

Thanks, for the info. I was hoping the plug could still be used.

2007 Backup camera interface

Postby Robotics » Sun Sep 10, 2006 1:47 pm

Team, I checked the 2007 Solara electrical diagram for the Nav System - and there is no longer a video interface for a backup camera. The best alternative, is a completly seperate LCD screen and camera...Mr. Robotics

P.S. if you would like a copy of the diagram let me know.[/img]

Installed the license plate backup camera

Postby Robotics » Fri Sep 15, 2006 3:35 pm

Was able to install the Audio Vox license plate backup camera ($199.00 at Circuit City). Connected it to the Nav unit R10 connector. Had to fiddle with the wires a bit but it works great. You put the Solara into reverse and the view behind the car pops up on the Nav screen. No buttons to push. Took about three hours to install. This is on the 2007 Solara SLE Convertable...thanks to everyone for the diagrams.

OK- I went ahead and bought the back up camera- I can't wait to get it. One question though- I have seen a few members on the site that have the back up camera on their car and they have wired up a switch so that they can switch it on while they are driving forward. Does anyone know how to do that? Thanks!

Wiring the AudioVox license plate backup camera

Postby Robotics » Tue Sep 19, 2006 8:27 am

Team the wiring of the backup camera can be made easer if you cannibalized the pins from a PC's audio cable. This is the cable that typically comes with a SoundBlaster type audio card. The can be bought separately for a few dollars from stores like CompUSA. Get the one that has the white connectors. It turns out that the pins inside the white connector are exactly the same as the ones inside the Navigation System connector R10. Then cut off the wire about three inches from the back of the white connector. Remove the wire and pin from the back of the white PC connector (only three are need) and solder them to wire to the end of the camera cable. Then I inserted them into the 23,22 and 21 pin openings in the back of the R10 connector. Be sure to correctly insert the shield, video + and ground into the correct positions in the back of theR10. Reference the connector diagram provided in this string of e-mails. It makes for a very clean installation. Then hooked up the camera's power to the backup light circuit so it’s only on when backing up.. Other wise I found that the camera if it is on all the time gets very hot. reference the following sequence of pictures...
