Looking into LED

Postby Sap Z » Tue Jul 11, 2006 4:29 pm

well - i still want to give them a shot in the brake lights. that is - if its not going to screw up my electrical system.

so it would be great i you could look into the 12V question. i have a strong feeling watttage is something that will mess it up.

where r the electrical geniuses - python josh?

o btw, if you're really looking into changing your tail lights into LED, I suggest you retrofit. Create your own circuit board. Make it look OEM 8) . They have tutorials at http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/. Us Gen2's have it easy, all we have to do is swap our tail lights out with the gen2.5 tail lights. But then again, you'll save money by retrofitting.

Ok, back to the 12V question. If you're really worried about electrical problems, I would suggest you use a voltage regulator. This would eliminate your worries as the bulb will not be able to overheat your electrical wirings as it is limited by the voltage regulator as to how much power and current it can draw.

someazn - Have you actually installed this electronic flasher - CF18-08? I have some LEDS to install for the blinkers and actually took down that kick plate where the stock flasher is and it did not look like a normal flasher unit. It looked like it had a harness coming out of it with a lot of wires. maybe I am looking at the wrong thing??

LED's aren't exactly high tech. They run on 12V, and there's even bulb replacements that fit into our existing tail lights. Do we use the 1157 bulb? If so, these guys have a replacement on their bike for like $5 using LED 1157 bulbs.

this may seem a little off topic but i was reading a previous thread as well on LEDs and i was thinking..

if you put L.E.D. bulb in the rear taillight, does it really make a difference as much as opposed to just a regular bulb? because I did it once (daytime) and i couldn see the difference even tho the car was in the garage...

I just replaced mine about five minutes ago... the thing with the harness is the flasher unit... the aftermarket one that I picked up look exactly like it, and once I pulled out the stock one, it fit right in...

(it should also say "FLASHER" on the stock unit)

cklinh what is the trick to get the stock flasher to come out? It looks like it does not come out easily and I have tried pulling on it and it gives resistance.

Do you have the replacement? Look at the back and there's a little bar of plastic... the car has a clip that goes in that hole... I just stuck a screwdriver in and it popped out... once it's free from that white piece of plastic thing, you have to unhook the harness...
