Those of you who are considering an intake for your Gen 1, 1.5, or 2 should definitely consider the CP-e MAFci. The Gen 2.5 is on the way.

They finally certified a version for the 2006 model year and I installed mine last Saturday. It took a little under 90 minutes, and that included a couple of trips inside to check the web. (My instruction packet had a couple of sheets messed up.) That includes soldering in my 'MAF customizer' too, although using the included wire-tapping 3M Scotchloks would have probably saved me 15 minutes or so.

I've now driven it about 170 miles and like just about everything about it. It makes a nice sound that's more subdued at cruising speeds, but it REALLY announces itself if you hit it. I also have the TRD muffler to complement the sound. I wasn't looking for something too vocal at idle, so this setup has worked well for me.

As far as performance, it is difficult for me to gauge performance, or to specifically compare it to the Injen, as I have not been in a Solara with the Injen intake, but I will say this. I have installed CAI intakes on several other cars from Injen, K&N, and a couple lesser known makes, and none of them have had the noticeable impact on performance that the CP-e MAFci has had.

First off, at the higher RPM band is where this thing makes itself known, as it gives you a little extra push as it screams to the neighboring cars, "Coming through!" But at the lower RPM band is where I noticed the difference that I wasn't expecting. The torque is increased as it 'snaps' the car to attention more quickly with less pedal pressure. I've even found myself babying the accelerator a little more to keep it smooth. As another example, I've noticed that I can keep the tires squealing through a power slide a little longer now.

As a bonus, I'm getting somewhere around 2-3 mpg better. As down2thec stated earlier, it's hard to keep off the pedal with this thing, so right now I'm probably throwing a little bit of that improvement back. I'll get a better reading of the mileage improvement with time.

I'm not saying that this is a replacement for a turbo or S/C by any means, but this is a nice kit for the Solara that gives the engine a bit more personality.

I give it two thumbs up.

Hard to keep off that gas now, huh!? Freaked out a lane-drifter today with that pipe.

Now that I'm hosted, I can get some video out there once I fix my PC up and do some capturing.

Just cleaned mine. Nice to have it blue again. Just get a cleaning kit from cp-e. Instructions are on the box. It's a lot like washing dishes if you then sprayed them with blue oil. 8)

Nice writing bro !! I have a friend that told me that I probably would do a better buy with Injen (before I went to CP-e facilities) but now he likes the sound pretty much !! He didn't try it inside the car but I can say it is better performance for sure. Bad with this hot hot (90 F) an humid weather the the air density is so low that I got the same numbers as in springtime (50 F). The gain is there (a real 6%) !! It's the only engine perofrmance part available for the 3.3L V6 for now (with some other air intakes...) but it provides real performance.

Actually it does. It has the adhesive plaque along the side. But it just so happened that the glare along the pipe ran right through the plaque and obscured the text. If you look closely, you can see the edges of the plaque.

I was hoping they'd have an engraved logo, but I guess they didn't do that on this run of the pipes.
