OK, I wouldn't have used the same "words." but I have to agree with this.
Sometimes you guys have to remember what it takes for a company to custom make parts. It's not cheap. A prototype exhaust system that we would make for Toyota can cost up to $5,000 a system. And that's if they order more than 50 systems.
There are no Star Trek replicators out there where you just push a button and out pops a part. Imagine how many people it takes to make the custom part. From design, to materials to production / prototyping to QC. You must pay for the hourly time EACH person puts in long before the first part comes out. Now if the company makes a mistake and the part doesn't fit, any profit made can be sucked up in trying to fix the problem.
I'm sure if there are any fixtures, molds or tools, that you wouldn't be willing to pay for them out right. Proto tooling for that $5K exhaust, probably around $100K.
These companies HAVE to make a profit. No, the $600 isn't all profit. The expenses are spread over the few that they sell. Honestly, I'd wager they make almost no profit on your initial order. What thay are hoping for is that you will pay for the engineering expenses, proto and development for a potential production application.
Give these guys a break. This is a much better deal than production prices for a front big brake kit. (And the only thing they develop is the relo bracket.) Oops, wrong soap box.
