Modified OEM Top Grill

Modified OEM Top Grill

Postby cklinh » Thu Apr 13, 2006 11:06 am

I would like to preface this by saying that I absolutely love the look of Michael T's mesh grill, especially in black. I'm just a little wary of how easy it'd be to bash it in and pop the hood (and thus cut the alarm)... thus is the worries of an urbanite...

Was looking through ALL of the Gen 2 cardomain pages and found this to be very interesting...

If done right, it would provide more rigidity to the top mesh grill... and since the OEM one is just laying around, I might give this a try, and incorporate Mike T's mesh grill into this.

Any thoughts?

PS The reason I looked through ALL of the cardomain pages is because I was looking for this one particular car/image. It shows a custom enclosure in the back of the car that looks like it was built into the car, close to the back seat (I think with 4 subs). Know what I mean? Anyone have that linked? I can't find it anymore...

PPS Found the pic I was looking for:

Looks like an interesting and possibly good idea, but before you cut up on your stock grille, I would check with Michael T and see if he thinks its possible to incorporate his grille into the stock grille frame as you suggest.

Hm... if you look really closely at this pic:

It looks like the guy started out with Mike T's upper grill as well...

And, I'm not really looking for a direct fit between the two... just gonna sacrifice Mike T's grill for the black mesh (so that it'd match)... HOPING it works...

What's a good way of attaching the mesh?

I'm not sure I understand how adapting the mesh to the OEM frame is going to prevent anyone from "bashing it in"...what am I missing?

It won't prevent it, but I'm hoping to do it in such a way that it'll be harder.

The mesh grill currently only has a rubber border and is held in place by wire ties.

Cool... that's a kickass enclosure. No questions for now. I was gonna try to start on the enclosure project sometime next year (after my wedding)... Now I'll know who to ask questions :)

Unless... you don't happen to have plans or anything? (yeah, I know, wishful thinking)
