TRD spring installation cost?

TRD spring installation cost?

Postby tacti » Tue Apr 11, 2006 4:11 pm

I got a set of TRD lowering spring, and looking around for the place to install.

the first shop i called:
it will be 2-2.5 hours, and total cost will be $150 -180 and alignment. but they won't know exactly how much it will be until they actually finish :(

second shop:
it will be 2.5 hours for front, 2.6 for rear, total will be $670 including alignment.

I think i read somewhere it should be around $100 (i searched, but couldn't find it.. )

I called local toyota, and asked for the price, and they said they will give me a call after they talk to the technitians.

can't be that expensive isn't it??
if you know any place around southwest ohio (or i'll go to chicago if it is cheap!!!), please let me know..

but... how can it be $670 just to install springs????
outrageous!

It will be around that or a bit more in a Toyota dealership. I paid 250$ CAD around 210$ USD for aroungd 2.5 hours.

By the way TRD spring are the best of both world !! Maybe more confortable than stock (weird but true) and give a great look to the car !!

wow, 670!! thats out rageous. 2.5, eh.. it can be done in 1 hour. I don't know why it would cost so much to install. The $100 you mentioned sounded fair. Yeah, alignment will be needed, thats like $50. I did my own strut and spring, and it was pretty easy. The longest part was taking off the strut, even that was still pretty fast.

If you want you can do it yourself, save the install cost and then just pay for an alignment. For my car, it was 2 big ass bolts that held the strut to the axle then the 3 bolts on top in the engine bay. From there rent/borrow a spring compressor, take off the 1 nut on the top of the strut mount and your done. install the new spring in reverse order. If your new to this, maybe 30mins for each axle.

If the place your looking into charges XXX for 2.5 hrs, their really taking their time. I say 1.5hr tops (minus alignment)

I'd offer to do it for you, but I am pretty sick right now. Notice how I have been posting an awful lot the last two weeks . If you still need it done when I get better, which is an unknown variable at this point, perhaps I can do it for you. Realistically, you should be able to get it done for less than $300. Soundlzrd, Sean, on TN might be able to point you in a good direction. I am not sure if he is still doing work with cars, but I can vouch for his knowledge and character.

Thanks for the help and offers guys.
I think i heard that Gen2 requires to take the rear seats off to reach to the strut. does anyone confirm this?
or if anyone has done this before on your Gen2, please let me know..
if the installation is that high, i might as well doing it by myself.... (god knows how long it will take me to do.. )

I'm still looking around and see where i can get it done cheaper..

All the Toyota sedans (Camrys, Solaras, Corollas) I have worked with have required some rear interior disassembly. I have never worked on the suspension of a Gen 2 Solara, but I would assume that the design is similar.

No need to take the rear seats off the Gen2, I have worked on a few of them as far as lowering goes, just some panels.

Yeah, I would be happy to do them, something could probably be worked out cash wise, right now I am not doing anything untill my medical issues get cleared up. Contact me in a few months on this, once school winds down, and I get better health wise.
