I just got my 3.3L intake and the two 4mm vacuum lines above the fuel rails are suppose to hook up with the 2 3/16" vacuum ports on the intake.
Are the two ports suppose to be hollowed out?, cause
mines is not. Is that a defect?

thank you
mike

I noticed the same thing. I couldn't tell if the hole is really small or what.

I went ahead and intalled it anyway looking for CELs. I'd forgotten about it till you mentioned it.

This is a good question for Paul Ho at Injen

I called injen and they wanted a pic of the intake. but i don't have a digital pic to send. they don't know what's going on. I'm scared to drive my car now. my ports are completly sealed, i don't know weather to open them up or leave them as is.

well how's your car been runnin with the same situation?

If you don't get to it by this weekend, I'll pull it off and take some hi-res shots. I suspect it occurs during the polishing process. This probably isn't an issue on the powder coated parts.

As for running, everything seems fine.

Anyone with a manual know what those two lines are used for?

Post or send me photos of the two (vacuum?) lines you're talking about and I'll look them up in my manuals.

Look for two vacuum lines going from under the decorative engine cover to the upper left side of the OE intake box. Injen has us route them into the side of the new pipe. See the two nubs at the bottom.

I've checked under the hood on my Gen 2 and then looked in the manuals. The best I can determine is one line is a vacuum supply line from the engine (intake manifold?). The other is the vacuum acutator line for vacuum switch valve (VSV) #2 which controls intake air control (IAC) valve #2 in the intake mainfold.
The bottom line is you want to keep these connected properly or you will probably see a loss in engine performance.

Thanks for the info Doc! I took mine out this afternoon and sure enough, the holes were filled. (I wonder if I missed something in the instruction sheets.) Am I supposed to read those?

I'd drilled one and started on the second when I remembered that I needed to take a pic of it. So here it is, partially boared out.

Doc:
Reinstalled it with the holes drilled out.

The seat of the pants dyno "thinks" the bottom end had improved. But a million things could attribute to that. (Haven't driven it in the past couple days. Been using the RX-8 ) Temp is around 78°F versus the average temp of 85°F.

Thanks for looking up the info.

(PS: DowntotheC, we gotta rerun the dyno sometime.)

We need to anyway. When I get time to figure out my customizer bypass issue, maybe we can set up a hook up near you. This time we can go for the standard $75, three pull deal. My calendars looking good for October unless you're coming to Chi before then.

October sounds good. (Cool temps - lots of power.) I may try to schedule some training in Chi-town. I'll send 'ya a note when I have it nailed down.
