question about visibility with dark tints

Postby got sport » Tue Nov 02, 2004 4:48 pm

I have 35% tint, and the visibility is still clear. I actually want to get darker tint at 20%.

I've got a 20% on my read windshield and I can see fine, just don't plan on getting an auto-dimming rearview mirrow if you go 20% or darker on the rear shield.

The SLE comes with the auto-dimming rearview mirror. Someone a long time ago posted that it wasn't auto dimming since the light was cut down to it enough already. Can anyone with an auto-dimming mirror and 20% tint confirm that autodim doesn't work? (With autodim, rear bright lights dim and turn greenish-blue).

I got my 20% Tint and I love and hate it at the same time. Night visibility is greatly affected. Well, its ok if there's lots of lighting outside, but in a parking lot or something.... I almost ran over someone while making a turn and couldn't see him. I'm thinking of going down on the tint. My dimmer still dims when the car in the back has high beams on. Otherwise, it doesn't really do much anymore.

Can't you just turn off the auto-dim if it becomes a pain? Problem solved!

Why would the auto-dim feature ever be a pain? I totally love this feature and don't want to ever have to manually flip a mirror again. Same thing with the side mirror. If you have 20% tint, it sounds like the autodim feature only works with high beams. If no tint, it works for all headlights which is fine.

I have a autodim on my camry. I loved that thing until i tinted my windows. Since then i've never used it...well, its never needed dimming. I normally back out of my driveway...at nights i do have some trouble backing up and i open my windows...but thats my oly issue..as soon as i hit the roads, its all visible!

hid's where...in your backup lights! LOL!

Edit: not to add quotes like others....
you add hid's to add visibility FRONT, your tints (if dark enough) diminish visibility in the sides and rears...hence my comment. Anyhow....i wish we had this smilie...Image

He said driving, not backing up specifically.
