Aftermarket Stereo

Nervous about the install cause i don't have much audio background. But I'm going to learn and get it anyways. Its gonna look hot. Why not paint it silver if you guys/girls dislike black so much. I think it blends in nice.

Re: Stereo Install LONG!

Only 2 of the stock stereo's wiring harness are used, so the third must be for the steering wheel controls. So you loose ALL the stereo wheel controls, including the one for the mpg/distante to Empty, etc., or in other words, the trip computer. Didn't expect to loose that, but did. So the dash display is now stuck on miles to go until empty, with no way to change it. Strange...

Jewls,

That's the same problem I had with my 03 Altima, after installing the DVD sys, the steering wheel controls were no longer usable and that SUCKS! However there was a credit card size remote control so, that was a bit better. There's gotta be some aftermarket company that can make a UNIVERSAL steering wheel control that will allow aftermarket HU to work.

All in all, it looks great!

They make an adapter for steering wheel controls, just not for the Solara yet.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9PYog9fNte ... ?i=127SWIX

Maybe if enough of us call and ask them to make one... Hint Mike, haha!

But I have the credit card remote too, so it's all good for now.

Another thing to be aware of...................

I don't know if it's because of the 20% tint, but now with the Pioneer, I have MUCH less radio reception than I used to. Apparently that worthless antenna built into the back window only really works with the stock stereo, along with the steering wheel controls, which I plan to call PAC to try and take care of that. I plan on getting XM soon, so radio not too big of deal for me.

To add to my last post, there is plenty of room behind the stereo to add fm modulator or whatever back there. No need to worry about finding places to conceal add-ons. Just an FYI for you guys.

To the left and right of the center storage compartment are perfect places for aux input adapters, FM modulators or whatever.

I have a Soundgate AUX adapter and Kenwood controller for my Keg hidden there.

Hey jewls i read that you lost reception after the installation change. My gen 1.5 solara did the same after my windows were tinted with my Panasonic indash TV/DVD unit. But what i did to solve that was i bought a ant adaptor with 12V power to it. It gave me alot better reception since now im putting some power to it. Thought this might help you about that issue. They have it as best buy for about $16 bucks.

here what is looks like
Image

has a 12v power any wire to it which you can attach the remote wire for power ant from the radio to it so that it will only be powered when the radio is on.

Thanks I will look into that! Here in Pensacola, I get 4 radio stations, and they all suck. My boyfriends Titan however, gets LOTS of good stations.

You should look into Sat. Radio, like XM or Sirius. I have Siruis and its great. tons of stations and good music if you have long drives.

I also have a portable one for my daily driver and home. its pretty cheap. I have 2 lines active for under $20 bucks a month.
