XM tuner for 2005 Solara

Postby MiamiSolara » Wed Oct 13, 2004 5:21 pm

Just bought a 2005 convertible with the NAV system. The stereo is XM ready. I'm told that the only XM tuner I can install it the Toyota brand sold at the dealer. The dealer wants $479 for the darn thing. THATS TOO MUCH. The part number from Toyota is pt54606050 for the XM tuner. Does anyone know who makes it or where I can get it for ALOT LESS than the dealers $479? Thanks.

The instructions to install the kit are at toyotaparts4u.com.

You can paint the plastic, as long as the paint isn't lead based as that will interfere with the signal.

Are you going to install it on the roof? The instructions say the side of the decklid, however I think thats a piss poor location if you ask me, and its not attractive.

I don't think our paint is lead based. I would think the antenna would look less obvious on the decklid than on the roof unless it was at the back of the roof centered like Audi has theirs. Where could you mount it on the roof without drilling a hole?

You don't drill a hole, you run the wire through the window side mold, and run it down to the trunk by way of the rear brake light

Your XM antenna

Postby MiamiSolara » Mon Oct 18, 2004 7:08 pm

It is true. You can paint the antenna the color of the car and you can mount it on the trunk lid.....if that's want you want to do. On the other hand I went to Sound Advice, don't know if they have one in your area but I'm sure Best Buy or Circuit City, and bought a real small XM antenna and my intentions are to mount it on the dashboard in the lower passenger corner. This allows me to have to run less cable, don't have to worry about painting it and it's not really obvious unless you're looking for it. Let me know how it goes........MiamiSolara

If you don't like the size of the factory antenna, you can use a smaller aftermarket one, you just need to get an adapter for the plug. The factory uses a 2 wire antenna and most aftermarket ones are one wire.
When in doubt gas it out, brakes just slow you down.
