Mmcdonald,
Can you detail just how it connects to your stereo? Does it plug into your tape drive or use FM modulation? Either of those techniques will hurt the frequency range and a wired to back of the receiver is the ultimate solution for the best sound. The Toyota "expensive" solution does just that so it sounds like you might have been comparing apples to oranges.

Both...

The Blaupunkt America SR04 uses both methods. I am using the FM modulation now (which is redundant btw - "frequency modulation" modulation). I will be connecting the unit to the Aux in, either tape or satellite, depending on what it will let me use.

I'll keep you posted.

after buying antenna, u have to pay the monthly fee for XM. i just feel it's weird to pay so much money and get a "high quality AM/FM..."

I've been using XM for a few months now in our other cars (using transferrable "Roady" units) and IMO its well worth it. I don't even listen to regular radio (or CD for that matter) anymore.

Does Toyota "factory" (dealer?) system use XM or Sirius ??

Am getting the Toyota "factory" system integrated with the OE NAV / system on the SLE convertible I'm ordering.

To confirm -- the Toyota "more expensive" solution does it hard-wired (via RCA/DIN/other plugs) to the back of the receiver -- is this correct?

This is the best solution from a fidelity standpoint.

I've been using mine via:
- FM (i.e., using some unused freq in the 88.x or 107.x range)
- cassette adaptor

FM is OK but can get flakey at times, particularly in big city markets with an already-crowded spectrum. Cassette adaptor systems are a little better, but still have all those extra cords.

What exactly is the XM Kit Toyota sells? does it let you add XM capabilities to any Solara, regardless if it's the standard or JBL system? Does it work on 05 models ?
