I was driving home one night after work. I saw in the rear view a pair of really nice purple-ish lights closing in. Stopped beside me at the light and saw it was an M3. I want to know if its possible for my Solara to have that same type of bulbs. Where can I get them?

they are HID.

you can't achieve that look unless you have projectors that move(for balance) and HID aftermarket lighting.

And, I do believe after a few minutes as the HID reach the normal operating temperature; the color would turn from purple-ish to bright white.

The BMW HID's will be bright white when up to temp, but still look purpleish when viewed off-angle.

If you want lights like this and you want to "do it right" you'll need to buy an HID set-up. If you want to "do it cheap" you can get some of the aftermarket halogen bulbs with higher color temps like PIAA's, Hoen's, Nokya's, etc. Check out the color of my halogen lights on my website.

You actually dont even need HID for that look. Your Solara's projectors have the same effect, but not as much seeing that the M3 has wayy stiffer suspension. Also to add, your car doesn't need the self leveling thing either.
