Okay, not to equivocate, but fatigue and fail are two different things. I think the bar will not fail (as in come apart) but I think it will become ineffective, or lose its effectiveness due to flex and brittleness over many tension/compression cycles. It clearly was designed with cost effectiveness, and not performance, in mind.
But I agree with you, it is probably properly engineered for the "real" driving habits of the targeted users, but it is definitely not overengineered, as will be needed by the actual users who will stress this stock bar - like me!

Toyota was thinking of the demographics when they designed the stock bar, and they were thinking of us when they designed the upgrade.
