Im curious to know, for the money, if the TRD air filter or a K&N filter is better for some noticeable (if there is) performance gain.

it sounds better, i originally felt detatched fromt he road because i couldn't hear my engine below 5k rpm. So you'll feel faster.

performance wise you'll probably get about 1 hp. But you will get a mild improvement in gas mileage, as well as save money on air filter replacements (they last forever, you just have to clean them)

crap, i didnt realize this was the gen 2 forum. This is all from a gen 1 owners viewpoint

there should be similar gains for gen 2 as well.

imho, just go K&N route.

the human being does not have the ability to "feel" or "sense" a HP increase of 1-7hp.

only the dyno is able to.

however it is nice to know to have a filter that filtrates better and more free flowing than stock.

Yep, main reason I got it is so I can be lazy and not have to replace it, just clean and oil it every once in a while.

it frees up air flow.. which gives better gas milage.. also you can just clean it rather than having to buy another

There is no significant difference between the K&N and TRD air filters (I've own(ed) both). Buy which ever one you can get for the least $$.

SEE: http://www.zer0.info/solaraguy/viewtopic.php?t=11006 for air filter installation instructions.

I've had K&N filters now for 15 years with no regrets. I installed a K&N in my SLE raag top last week. Straight forward -

2 bolts on the air box towards the driver side fender.
Loosen those (mm socket don't recall size)
opposite side of the airbox 2 tabs that slip into openings
there are 2 vacuum hoses that pull right off - one facing the front one facing the passenger side fender
lift airbox top remove original filter and r/r with new filter
