pulley removal

Postby CamryOnBronze » Thu Jul 10, 2008 3:39 pm

I searched but didnt have a lot of luck... Im trying to swap out my pulley and cant seem to break the bolt loose- the pulley keeps spinning with the bolt. I held the belt while I tried loosening it but the pulley still spins. Any ideas on what i can do to get this removed? thanks guys!

strap wrench around the pulley, more grip. socket to unscrew the bolt. use a hex bolt socket instead of the 12point.

take off belt on the pulley first.

Personally, I wouldn't use an impact wrench. Even from the words of gadget, you can shear the pins that attach to the coupler. You might get lucky with it, but I'm not into any extra abuse on my s/c.

It sounds stupid, but get a guy or two to hold the belt down by the alternator while it's taught. This worked for me.

thanks guys, Ill grab a strap wrench and try that. I read on an old thread that an impact can damage the blower and or nosecone, so that didnt seem like the best idea IMO...

numbers tomorrow night :) thanks guys.

Word. That's how I got my pulley off the s/c, used a strap wrench don't use an impact gun.

impact gun for me every time- one hit

and strap wrench never worked for me...it was never strong enough. One hit every once in a while doesn't kill the coupler....that, and it's easy to replace anyway ;)

i 3rd/4th the impact suggestion BUT have a friend handy to hold-as-tight-as-humanly-possible the pulley itself from spinning.

i tried a strap wrench and "hello!" *snap* it broke.

as aforementioned, "one quick blip" BOOM. off.
