idle question!

Postby shocar4 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 10:56 am

after my winter tune ups on the car i noticed that my car when 1st started idles at 1700rpms and then after the cold idle, it only retreats to about 1000-1100....i like it to run more like 700-800 at normal idle! should i just leave it for now or do i need to change anything! my tuneup included colder plugs for the sc'er, magnecor wires, shorter sc'er belt, pcv valve and i cleaned out the dirty throttle body and sc'er! my adjustment to the throttle is all the way to its limit where the max's out! any advice would be great! maybe it is just the -8 degree weather that we have been having! btw man does that sc'er sound nice with the sc'er oil changed!!!

I think its just the cold weather. Hows the idle after you drive around a little bit and it all heats up?

Mine is around 700-750 when it heats up. Also cold here

i'm not sure what the deal is, i haven't driven it, but i did let it run for about 20 minutes and it was all warmed up! and it only came down to 1000-1100...it is suppose to get up to the 30's this weekend and i am going to see if anything changes from the below zero that it was when i tried it last!

Yeah. You need to try driving it. Mine goes to about 1100 when in gear but not moving, after its been driven it drops to about 780ish. I usually let it warm up for 2-3 minutes depending on the temp.

i started it today because it was -19 degrees with a wind chill of -40 and it started right up and idled at 900 then gradually went to 1700. so i let it run for about 30 minutes and it only came down to 1100rpms....what the heck!

thats awfully weird bro.
my car is parked outside and even today when starting it up at 3 degrees, after a 10 minute warm up and I drove it, it fell down to like a 800 rpm idle.. when I first start it up it goes to like.. 1500 rpm...
wish I could find out what's up..

check ur butterfly valve in the Throttle body, check if it fully closes and opens...maybe something is making it open more than it should...

yeah i checked that already! i do need to drive the car, but right now we have about 5-6 inches of snow on the ground and i am not taking it out! just weird how it was normal before the tune up and now i have this small issue! i checked all the vacuum hoses and everything that i can visually! ...it's not a huge issue right now, but it just bugs me alittle!
