hey guys, problems again :( . after replacing my fule filter and o2 sensors the codes went away and all was well till about 3 days ago. codes came back, bank 1 sensor malf, slow response and a cat efficency code.

after just screwing around with the vin# it say that the car was supposed to be cali spec emissions. today while poking around the engine bay i inspected the sticker under the hood only to find that there was a non cali spec sticker placed over the cali spec sticker :-? i didnt know u could even get thoes stickers.

from what i can tell i now have to go back and buy new o2 sensors for cali spec. but im not fimiliar with cali/non-cali emission camrys (never owned or worked on one...till now). i did pick up some bosch fusion plugs today so thoes will be replaced. im in the dark as to what all i may need to consider or know since its cali spec. thanks for any help or advice.

maybe why i get the CEL for a lil while then it goes away as i posted in the gen 1 solara section...i know that my mz has the a/f sensors...they are on the exhaust manifolds and they look like o2's but slightly different and can be easily confused...had to buy them from the dealer and it cost over 300 and thats getting them at the dealer price...

how many wires does the original oxygen sensor? if it is AF sensor than it has 4. or, just have dealer run your vin number and let them tell you what part you need. (from part department not the service department, service department will give you bullshits)

I think wether its an 02 or A/F sensor it has four wires...

PS, what bosch plugs do you have? Spark plugs? i think its been said that they dont function correctly on the 1mz...most of us have denso or ngk

the bungs are the same though right? the o2 sensor i put on the rear bank(bank 1 i think) had a much longer wire harness but the sensor itself looked the same.

o2 sensors on a cali spec that requires a/f sensor is gonna end up in bad gas milage, and possible weird fuel usage.

but would that explain the dropped codes? what i found weird was that the o2 sensor codes were just on bank 1. i am also getting bad gas millage :-? other then that its idleing a slightly rough from time to time and if i run in in high rpms i can smell unburnt fuel(running rich)

im sure that the ecu is running in some sort of fail-safe mode. when that happens, it dumps more fuel in as a precaution which hurts power as well as inclreases fuel consumption. I'd get it replaced if you do need af sensors.
