Spark Plug Info
Alot of us are running IK22's for upgraded spark plugs once supercharged.
However, it has dawned on me that some might not have the right gap on our spark plugs.
i was about to just buy the first denso iridium ik22's that i saw on ebay. not so. the gap in our stock spark plugs is .044, many spark plugs that have the ik22 name have gaps of either .032 or .035(considered normal). yes, the difference may seem minuscule, but when you are dealing with 1/100ths of a number, each bit counts. In this case, .012.
i did some research and what are the benefits of each circumstance?
* narrow-gap risk: spark might be too weak/small to ignite fuel;
* narrow-gap benefit: plug always fires on each cycle;
* wide-gap risk: plug might not fire, or miss at high speeds;
* wide-gap benefit: spark is strong for a clean burn.
so, essentially, you have two choices. if you just pull any spark plug off of ebay, you will most likely end up with the smaller gap (.032 or .035) and not burn off all the fuel you give the engine completely. Thus negating the effects of jim's fuel mod OR
two. buy the .044 gapped plugs and you will burn off all the fuel given to the engine.
a direct replacement with a gap of .044 would be for you guys to look up spark plugs for a 2.5L Volvo S80. GOOD LUCK!
