Pulley + PSI question

Pulley + PSI question

Postby Dawgz » Wed May 30, 2007 11:13 pm

So my Pulley size on my Supercharger is 3.2"

so, i went on PulleyBoys.com and i got this list of pulley size and what PSI it would produce.

Pulley Size PSI
Stock TRD 3.2" 2.5~3 PSI
3.1"
3.0"

recommended size 2.9" 5.5 PSI
2.8" 6 PSI
2.7"
2.6" 7 PSI
2.5"
2.4" 8 PSI

so my 3.2" puts out around 3psi, which my boost gauge does show me im putting out, so now if i got a 3.1" pulley, is that 4psi? what about 3.0" ?

anyone mess with those sizes? cause all i read about on here is either 4psi, 5.5psi or 7psi, JIM = 8psi, and red knight which is at like 12psi+

i want to up the boost, im going to purchase a SAFCII soon and get the car dynoed and Tuned, should i do this after i up the boost to like...a 3.1" pulley or 3.1" or should i dyno and Tune rite now with my stock 3.2" pulley?

whether you tune it right now or wait depends on the fuel upgrades you'll do. If your gonna do the bigger fuel pump, etc. and are going to wait to upgrade boost, then go ahead and get it dyno'd. If you've done all the fuel requirements to support the bigger boost and have the pulley in hand, then I say wait 'till you get to the shop to install the smaller pulley. Have them do a base dyno run on your stock setup before having them switch pulley's, that way that gives them a base, off of something to tweak the SAFC with when they put on the other pulley. That's what I did and worked for me.

i didnt upgrade the fuel pump to the walbro 190 yet, i was going to do it if i went to 5.5 psi.

would i get a bit more power if i just go with what i have and have them dyno and tune my car with what i have rite now? Or will it not be that much of a diffrence from untuned setup i have rite now compared to the SAFCII + tune.

So the SAFC II is installed? If it is, I say you wait 'till you upgrade the pump to dyno the car. I guess you can dyno it if you really wanted to since your adding more air with your intake and for peace of mind to know you're not running lean, but you wont really be able to compensate with more fuel since you don't have a bigger pump (not sure tho, how much you can adjust the stock pump). I say wait and save your money 'till you install the pump and are ready for the 5.5lbs.

You could always just roll the dice, put the pulley on and hope jim's fuel line keeps you rich enough, it might. If it doesn't and the knock sensor(s) go, there is always the rewire at the ECU which worked for me.

I feel like my biggest regret with modding the solara was not bucking up and buying the whole JPP set-up. Gabe's old y-pipe alone uncorked a lot of mid-range power, I'm pretty sure headers would have helped up high.

why do u regret not getting the JPP setup? did the fact u didnt get them cause ur knock sensors to blow or are u just regretting that u could have had more power?

The fact that S/C coupled with a decent full exhaust unleashes the biggest power potential. Also, exhaust is not parasitic to the engine like smaller pulleys tend to be with the 1MZ. At the time, I stayed away from the full exhaust because the price was high. Price is still high, but not as bad as giving a deposit to Xerd and getting nothing in return. Guess you have to pay to play.

Fletch, you just express my same sentiments, except I didn't mess with Xerd.
