Post-Boost Stalling Problem

Post-Boost Stalling Problem

Postby Eye8Pussies » Tue Oct 31, 2006 11:54 pm

I finally figured out my idling problem and apparently what was causing my lean condition (P0171) along with cylinder misfires- massive vacuum leak through a non-tightened egr block off plate on the blower side as well as a leaking throttlebody gasket

Those things have now been fixed and the car is running great and code free (though I think I may still be a bit lean- lean enough to not get a/f readings on a narrowband, but not enough to throw a lean code).

Now the problem that has arisen is that after booting it,,,,as in boosting around in a spirited fashion, when I come to a stop and idle, my car stalls right away.

I'm thinking that it's probably a fuel thing, but I'm really not sure.....anybody have any ideas?

And I have a 1994 Camry V6 with the 1mzfe and TRD s/c @ 4psi - no fuel mods as of yet, but I will be installing the 255lph pump as well as an aeromotive fpr since the gen3 camry has a return fuel system.

sounds vaccum related, but that would only be the first guess.

Happened to me a couple of weeks ago...come to a stop to make a turn or for traffic and the car would die, but it wouldn't happen every time. Mine was a TPS (throttle position sensor), but since you have no codes...it might not be the case.

I had rough idle, but never stalled, I did throw the TPS code though. I think I remember with the diagnostic tool I used, you could tell the TPS was not opening all the way up, around 50% on the readout. Btw, 70% is the maximum it opens up I think, doesn't go to 100%, going on memory.

yeah, that's the tough part.....since there are no codes, I don't know what it could be.

There are no vacuum leaks for sure now, since (now that I've gone through it), vacuum leaks are pretty obvious, especially at idle, and the car idles perfect now.

I'm thinking that I may be running lean to the point where after a good boot, there isn't enough fuel pressure to keep the engine going after I'm off the throttle.

I had occasional stalling problems when I had my vacuum leaks though, that's for sure....and that was regardless of booting it or not, since I usually drove like a granny while my lean code was still on

any more ideas?

I had the same problem. Up your throttle cable and it will save you for now. Its in fact either your Throttle sensor or your Airflow sensor on your intake or even both. They dont always show codes. Its just your sensors are weak. Just increase your throttle cable to 900rpm at normal idle and youll be fine.

When I did it , it worked for awhile then I changed my alternator and the problem went all away for good for the past 5 months now. Check to see if your alternators giving good power. Doesnt mean if your car still runs that its good. its maybe just staying constant because your on the throttle and when your off its too weak at idle belt speed.

Check those 3 things and youll be good. from there increase for your throttle line and youll be fine until you get everything checked..

IMO there you go. Saw your post earlier but at school. made free time to post for you. SAFC wont fix it.

^ yeah, that's the general idea that peopel seem to be coming up with....good to see it confirmed...

I will do that and hope it won't trip up the tps sensor at the same time
