Magnuson/Eaton

Magnuson/Eaton

Just a curious question. I was reading the post about the rippmods charger for the I4 solara engine, and in it speedstars mentioned something about the manufacturing of the TRD/Kazuma supercharger actually having somehting to do with Magnuson/Eaton or somehting of the like. If you go to Magnusons website, sure enough they have TRD listed as a company for which they supply parts.

I know most Solaraguys here have tried most everything as far as getting companies to make things for us, but has anyone ever contacted them as they are a company still in business and very much thriving. For those who don't know, Eaton also makes the stock superchargers for Cobras, and I never have and still don't know much about them as I figured they were pretty much a domestic company. However if they were behind the making of the TRD SC, would it be that far off base for them to be able to continue making TRD SCs, or would that bring a whole flurry of crap up with Trademarks etc. I assume someone has contacted them before, but I never knew they had anything to do with it until just now.

Maybe someone can explain the role they played in making forced iduction possible for the 1MZ engine? I know their superchargers utilize the same basic principle in design as the TRD. I even saw a special on two guys garage where they supercharged a Chevy Tahoe with a Magna charger from Eaton, they showed a cutaway of the superhcarger to show how it works in there, and also this nifty new venting technology to help reduce paresthetic power loss.

:D I believe that Magnuson was the sourced supplier for the TRD SC. TRD USA designed the blower package and Magnuson manufactured the product (as a root blower fused intake manifold assembly (a one piece design)). All the other components are not related to Magnuson. This includes the pretensioner assembly, EBC, Alternator pivot bolt, belt, Strut tower brace, rubber vacuum hoses, electrical grounds and EGR tube.

If you need the blower to be rebuilt, the TRD Help line (at the time) would refer you to Magnuson.

The original Kazuma/TRD SC kit did not have the strut tower brace as part of the SC kit. It was later added to the kit to clear the blower and for hood clearance. Hopefully this helps. :)

Correction

The S/C was always manufactured by Magnuson. TRD marketed the S/C under the name Kazuma (I believe in case they caused issues in vehicles they wanted to be as far removed as possible). All Kazuma/TRD superchargers came with TRD strut bar. The Kazuma did not come with the dynamic tensioner whereas the TRD one's did.

My charger came in the Kazuma box, paperwork etc and it DID also come w/ the dynamic tensioner.

I have given this some thought, I believe that the TRD SC is based off the M62 blower.

Now, if there was some way to fuse an intake plenum to an M65 (upgrade) blower, and be able to have it stay in place (given the welds hold up). You should be good to go.

I have also looked at Rotrex superchargers, centrifugal type, and allow for higher boost. Pretty small in size as well, thing is, I dont see this working with our engines, because we are all budget minded, and only a few of us could afford such extensive modifications.

Bottom line... no $$$, no custom made SC.

If I had the funds, Im pretty confident that I could get one fabbed....
