Supercharger Problems

Ok, I'm finally supercharged and its sounds good and all, BUT I'm not boosting higher than 0 on my AutoMeter Gauge. Now my question is why? What is the correct vacuum hose to use the gauge on, or maybe there's is something wrong on the supercharger? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there only one correct vacuum hose to use the gauge on for the S/C?

Take a pic and show where you hooked up the fitting on your SC..

Here is a pic of my SC last time it was out. Note the little brass colored fitting on the top right side. That's where my tube for the boost gauge hooks to.

^^ I'm sure he can feel it but he tapped a vacuum hose rather than the bung on top of the SC. I did the same on the advice of a turbocharged friend when I first installed mine. You'll need to buy a fitting with an elbow to try to clear the strut bar. I believe it is 1/4" just take the plug with you to the parts store.

This is actually a very common problem. Most shops will just say tap the gauge into any vacuum line. However if you do that, you will get the exact problem you have. You really need to tap into that port on the top of the sc. I'm sure you can tell that the car is boosted

Warning though, expect to hear this really nasty noise when you shift into reverse if your car is an automatic when that fitting starts hitting/vibrating against the strut bar. Solutions include; no strut bar, different strut bar, cutting a notch out of the bottom of the strut bar, urethane bushings in the dogbone, there may be more... -JoeB

Wow, thanx guys, that really helped big time. And you were right everyone told me (even the Toyota Dealership) said that I have to tap different vacuum hoses to see which one will work. Thanx again!!!!

So any elbow adaptor will work?

Just ensure the elbow can clear the FSB or you can snap it off. I modifised my FSB for proper fit.

Just looking for different notching techniques.
Do you keep the notches rounded to keep strength?

Ok , heres a new question, after removing the allen head bolt from the S/C does the elbow adapter go in place of the bolt? It doesn't hook into anything like a normal vacuum hose does? After I removed the allen hex head there is nothing in there but space, so do I have to fit it in there the elbow adaptor tightly/snug so no air seeps through? There's no need for the bolt after that?

After you take out the allen bolt, screw in the elbow. I wrapped the threads with plumbers tape. Then, the elbow to the gauge hose. From there to the gauge. When you start the car, the gauge will drop below 0. You engine will sputter if you have a leak and will cut off if connection is lost. Throw the allen bolt in the glove box, in case of emergency (possible hose damage or something). Take pictures if possible, good luck with the install!
