TRD SC with custom made intercooler

Postby Wang2k » Sat Apr 08, 2006 3:54 pm

I am willing to yank off my supercharger and have this done...please dont leave us hanging on the results as i already am aching to see them, Dyno Numbers, IAT, supercharger temps, Timing Info, VE% before and after, I want to know everything you are willing to share.

I love my supercharger but even before i got it i was following your I/C project thinking it would be the route that I would go...when you posted saying it wouldnt work i was hurt, and now i am thrilled...i cant wait to say "sure ED cut my charger in half and do the I/C deal for me" I swear if i cant get it done i will do it myself! MORE POWER!

Ive seen the pic from the bottom...so pretty much it has fins that the boosted air goes through that are cooled by the intercooler? The boost never leaves the supercharger right? Please tell me why this doesnt ristrict airflow thorugh the supercharger? Or does it restrict flow a little, but the effect on air temps and the straightening effect of the boost flowing through the fins far surpass the negative effect on flow???

Enlighten me please! :) im ready

I think his watter methanol kit should lower temps enough without needing to restrict airflow via a custom intercooler on top of that. With the power he is pulling I think the dual nozzel upgrade will be sufficient if not more than enough to satisfy those goals of reducing denoation and getting more power. custom intercooler - Overkill? :drinking: Me thinks so. IMHO

I think every forced induction package that pushes the limits eventually involved some type of intercooling system. Vortech,Stillen and other have FI kits that dont use intercooling ,until you start cranking up the boost for more power. The only issue is placement or cost/hp. Our platform has probably the worse case scenario for placement.

I commend Greg for putting up the resources($$$$$$$$$$) to innovate. I know I wasnt prepared to do so. Hopefully this can benefit us all that are boosted, at a tolerable price.

oh of course! There is no way i can express how much i appreciate Greg biting the bullet for the s/c 1mz community! Just think Greg, even after you sell your car, I will still be giving you props when people ask about my IC setup. I know that may not be exciting to you, I on the other hand am pretty respected where i live as a mechanic/engine builder and I know I would be on top of the world If i showed up on this site with the first intercooler.

On a side note, every day I check this thread...once in the morning, once around noon, and two or three times at night....my girlfriend is concerned...she thinks im getting ready to blow a bunch of money on my car so i told her ive been looking at porn lol...just kidding...i didnt tell her about the porn HAHAHAHAHAHAH

Well I got all the parts for my car in one place again. It's been almost 8 months but, later this week we start assembly.

1. We install the engine.
2. We install the new TEC 3R Total engine management system.
3. We put the car up on the lift to shape, fit and install the new stainless steel dual exhaust system with Hooker high flow mufflers and mini cats.
4. We install the heat exchanger.
5. We install the SC and intercooler, pump and water tank.
6. We lay out the hoses for the intercooler.
7. Complete some body work I'm having done.

Then we tune, tune, tune.. 8)
