Definition of *Shoulder Bolt*
(design engineering) A screw with an unthreaded cylindrical section, or shoulder, between threads and screwhead; the shoulder is larger in diameter than the threaded section and provides an axis around which close-fitting moving parts operate.

In this case, a rotating alternator.

The head in that pic is COUNTER SUNK:*Counter sunk* refers to the design of the HEAD..in this case, a RECESSED hex pattern inside the head instead of a HEX HEAD.

Yeah...I saw that and it really tossed me for a loop..I said WTF happened to your post :o ???...then I thought I might have responded to ANOTHER post you made to someone else looking like a FOOL :bday:

In any event...no problem. I'm just glad I have a spare bolt. I think my alternator may be going bad (dead battery at body shop) and now I'll have to *deal* with that Muthfkr! Any ideas on how to remove my stripped one?

I'm interested to buy two bolts and one spacer. My bolt was bent a little bit. I'm using washers for spacer but it's either too many washers or too few so it was bent.

^You can cut down the head of a hex bolt to get you by until you find a countersunk bolt. It's not the best option, but it will get your car running.

whoever does this, I'M IN.

I've tried to locally source these, and NO one has them. i've even asked shops to machine-make them, but they can't/don't because of the odd thread pitch (1.25).

i might get 2 so i have a spare pending on price.

when i upgraded to the dynamic tensioner on my 95, i had to remove the bolt with an air chisel.

Image

not fun, not pretty. caused some damage to the idler plate, but thankfully i didn't care, since i was putting in a whole new idler plate assembly, and the old one was going back to TRD under warranty, since the nose drive had failed. :D

thank god, tiem put a gallon of anti-sieze on the alternator bolt on my 98, cuz i had to remove the idler plate assy to replace one of the idlers. came out smooth like butter.

alltrac92 wrote:Found some grade 5 titanium bolts M10 x 1.25 x 100mm countersunk the head uses a Torx instead of an Allen. Price per bolt is $20-21 depending on fluctuation. Shipping to bring them over is 25 Euro about $36 for any number of 1-10 bolts so the more bolts order will spread the cost of shipping.

If that's the actual bolt in the pic, I don't think it will work. The SHOULDER (unthreaded portion) doesn't look long enough. I could be wrong...we would need confirmation.
