Instant Boost Mod/Boost Actuator Bypass Mod

* random note since this thread is on topic. Even with the EBC you can have it setup in the "5sp" mode. I believe you just ground the black wire or something like that and it wont cut boost in 1st gear and allow you to go crazy like a manual would. They purposly did that in the EBC "auto" setup to save the auto transmission as theres is too much torque from the motor+s/c that it would cause excess heat and kill itself. Manuals dont have this problem, you just cook clutch. lol

It has been verified a long time ago by a guy who experimented with his camry and s/c. He had a 5sp and tried both setups for kicks and noticed that boost is slightly capped no matter how hard you kick it in 1st gear in the auto if the ECU is wired using the "auto" diagram in the TRD s/c manual.

his site is www.supercamry.com I dont know if its still up or not but that car was one of the reasons I decided to mod mine. HAve fun boosting!

*Another random addition. instant boost vs. EBC (wired correctly) will and should net the same PEAK hp. The differences would be under the curve where daily driving is concerned. Daily driving takes place in closed loop mode where the ECU tried to keep a nice AFR ratio and constantly adjusts. By bypassing the once "vsv" system which the EBC uses to control the actuator and having the "instant boost" direct hose actuator conenction, the boost will be instant and give the "full boost based on rpm/pully" combo.
This could/might lead to temp lean spikes where there may be a ping/knock or even the primary afr sensors to freak out and would lead to ECU re-calculating like crazy since its still in closed loop and trying to save you gas.
In open loop mode @ WOT, this wouldnt necessarily matter as it uses different fuel/timing maps which fuel saving is the least of its concerns. But in closed loop driving, boost shocks may be the reason for temp lag.
