SAFC vs CPE tunable

Postby Eye8Pussies » Thu Jan 10, 2008 7:38 pm

I would say that it's all the same- but only if you already have the cpe and can upgrade to the tunable unit for cheap. otherwise, the safc is a much better deal along with an injen or custom intake.

the biggest issue with the cpe would be what everybody else is saying- if the tuners know how to use it well. but I would think that any good tuning shop would be able to tune it with a bit of fiddling around. As for tuning points, for our bolt-on blowers, the safc II has more than enough points- I woiuld presume that the cpe is similar. we don't need timing adjustments, but neither does it anyway.

as for the knock sensor monitoring....it's nice to know, but in the end, it's just a fancy thing to watch...I too blew my knock sensor on my solara. but by the time it shows, it's already gone. It can confirm the fact that it's totally blown though. Unfortunately, I can't say that it's a worthwhile enough feature to pick the safcII over the cpe tunable by itself though.

Another one of thee features we are most proud of is the real time graphs. These allow the user to analyze several engine sensors and make decisions based on graphs. After 100’s of hours of dyno time we have found that visualization tools such as this make tuning easier.

im not sure if it includes knock sensors.. but yea..

get the safcII.

And you still blew your knock sensor.

Probably a good call. Since the first time my tuner had the CP-e software he somehow messed with it and next thing I know I had a cel and it was reading too lean. I reinstalled my tune and everything went back to normal. :bday:

the knock sensor blew on the dyno, and when the car is on the dyno getting tuned they are not directly always looking at the knock sensor.

and, also i was not in the car while it was getting tuned before the knk blew...

and me not being in the car defeats the purpose of ur statement.

Don't take offense Dawgz.
My point is, what is the threshold of the knock sensor? Our 1MZ sensors are said to be extremely sensitive, so would that lower the number? Like Eye8 said "I too blew my knock sensor on my solara. but by the time it shows, it's already gone. " Thus kinda defeating the KS monitor? I don't know.

The part that I do like about the CP-e is that you can see, by monitoring, exactly where the MAF voltage is at, while you are tuning. Lets say at 800 rpm the graph shows you where the voltage is on the chart. So if you are lean, you can alter it accordingly. I know the SS unit does the same. Gadget and Split Second have a great diy tuning guide.
Got Boost?? :sweet:
