well, its confusing but the only diffrence with the two setups is that the one i have now, that's installed gives the belt constant 120lb tension, where the other old setup looses tension after sometime and u have to retension the belt (pivot the alternator and measure the tension using a Kent-moore Belt tensioner or anything similar).

Anyone care to share the part # of the tensioner?

If it's not that much, I'd like to get one too!

If you could get the two types of idler plates together, you could figure out the difference. I think it's only the hole where the tensioner would mount to the plate?? IDK? I have only seen the style with the tensioner.

yea, but the plate itself, where the hole is, is an extension basically.

What could be done is have someone with a new style plate to get them to go to a machine shop and make duplicates....

I have both style plates in my possession right now... one is for the sienna and one for the solara. The self tensioning setup has a wing that extends down for the tensioner to mount to.

To be honest, is it really worth all that trouble just to have the auto tensioner when you only really need to check the belt tension every 10k miles, if you ever do? Coming from experience it just seems like a lot of work for nothing...

what ever came of this! is there a real benefit to the dynamic tensioner or not? other than having to check belt tension every now and then with the older setup? any performance difference?
