Exactly what do you have to lose?

If the car is in good shape, what's the difference? If you are really concerned, you could do a cylinder leak down test, etc.

If the car isn't running well, then I'd say, get it running right first. It's my opinion that installing a 40 HP add on is silly if you are down 40 HP due to a poorly tuned engine.

My wife's Solara has 180,000 on it and I am just about to supercharge it. I'm in the process of getting things back to stock levels before the install. At this point if the engine goes, I'll just get another one and slap the supercharger on it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

They are hard to come by. You just have to keep your eyes open until one surfaces. I found mine on ebay. The guy wrecked his car and was getting rid of it. It was $1600. One went the week before that, but I didn't have permission to bid at that time (it's my wife's car). Obviously, I haven't installed it yet and it may be junk, but judging by the way the guy took care of things, I'd say it's probably in good shape. It came in the original box, with the original instructions two pulleys and every part included in the original kit, except tie wraps and such.

You are right that the second step, after deciding to do it, is obtaining it.

Good luck.
