okay so i screwed up bad! it was my brother in the sho and me in my solara side by side.......we were so trigger happy that we both smoked tires out of the box then he pulled about a car ahead of me, but i reeled him in by the top of first and then in second, i started pulling pretty good i beat him by about 2-3 car lengths in the 1/4 miles, but our take off killed us, he ran a 15.4 and i ran a flat 15 @ 94.40....his car usually runs mid to high 14's, so i think with a better launch and 60 our times would have been better! o well.....next month i plan on going back with the 5.5 pulley and dyno tuned!!! i think that low 14's are very possible with better temps and launch!

The launch

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:56 am

Naturally front drive cars suffer from a poor launch especially automatic cars that don't have the ability to use a limited slip diff. Of course you can go to drag slicks, but you can't use those on the street. There is a couple things you can do that help you get out of the "hole" a lot quicker. The most important is practice not smoking the tires much, a fine balance between power and traction. Tests have proven that just a bit of initial wheel spin or slip is best, but very little. Another thing that helps a lot is reducing wheel hop. You can feel wheel hop gets you nowhere and feels like you are rattling the car apart which you are. And it looks really stupid. A good anti-sway bar such as the Whiteline helps a lot. Another thing that makes a big difference is a torque rod. This limits engine movement which is another root cause of wheel hop. Another thing you need is to invest in the grippiest street tire you can afford. A real sticky tire like the Yokohama Advan Neova I use helps a lot. They are the stickiest street tire by far that I have ever tried and I get to drive a lot of tires here at the shop. Another good one is Michelin Pilot Sport 2. Under the right conditions, my car is in the 13's with a good hole shot, though it helps to have 8 psi of boost and perfect tuning.

You do everything right and you will smoke yer bro's Ford. The SuperSolara eats Mustangs GT's for breakfast easily. Even modified 5.0's.

low 14's def. possible.

I was running 13.5's at 107mph all day long at 7psi with no headers. That was with BFg drag radials which sucked anyway.

goodluck
